Flat Tire on the E42

Hey,

I just got a flat on the 42's (rear left). I don't know how bad it is yet but I am going to check it out. I have 15k on the car, I was considering getting new tires, but I think I still have a lot of usage on my current ones. I was thinking of getting it plugged. Should I get it plugged from an Acura dealership or any car place? Thanks for the help.

I guess, as long as the hole is not on the side wall, you could get helps from any shops or dealers you want. But, if you think you might work out some deals out of your dealership, you may go there.

As rets mentioned above, you can get it taken car of at almost any repair shop or tire store. You might want to get the tire patched rather than plugged, though.

Plug it!! I've had this happen to me a couple of times and it hasn't affected performance at all.

Thanks for all your input. I replaced the tire last night with the spare and I drove over a nail. I'll try and have it plugged today during my lunch break. Another question...how long are the OEM tires supposed to last? I keep reading all these different lengths from here.

Thanks again for your input.

I had 2 of the Bullshitstones go flat within the 600 miles I owned them.

Replaced then with the Falken 512's. It's now 7,000 miles later and I've had no flats at all since.

zalik22.....I would get it plugged and patched if I were going to keep the tires on until they wore out. You have a lot of miles left in them. My EL42s are down to 7/32 tread in 8600 miles. I figure they will last until 20,000 easily, but I may replace them before next winter. If I do, I will probably choose Pirelli P Zero Nero. They seem to be the best bang for the buck and Tire Rack rates them pretty highly.

Hi,

I got it plugged. Some places only patch and they said the nail was too close to the curve of the tire and a patch would come off too easily. I finally found a place and they did it in about 5 minutes. It looks good, hopefully it will hold up. I'll be on the lookout for new tires in about 10,000 miles, maybe sooner. Thanks for all your help!

The best bang for the buck are the Falken 512's.

I will have to look into the Falken tire.....never had them before. I have had Pirellis in the past and liked them. Of course, I have also had Bridgestones that I liked, but these EL42s are the pits.

Do a search on Falkens here in the forum and see the reviews. You can buy from www.edgeracing.com for $89 a piece. TireRack doesn't sell them, that's why they're not rated there.

What you REALLY want is for the tire to be repaired with a "plug-patch" combo repair unit. This is a plug and a patch together in one unit. Any proper tire repair MUST be done with the tire off the rim. If they plug it from the outside with a plug only.........say your prayers and don't drive fast.

Proper repair procedures for speed rated tires can be found here:
