Unhappy EL-42 Tires on '07 tl

I currently own an '05 tl that was originally equipted with Bridgestone EL-42 tires that were so bad that I had them replaced with Pirelli's within a month of purchase. I am looking at purchasing a '07 tl and was shocked to see that the EL-42's are still standard fitment. Have these things been improved? The tires could be a deal breaker as my wife will shoot me if I have to spring for new shoes again on a brand new car (it IS a bit hard to justify!). My dealer says that tires have been the number one complaint about tl's regardless of whether they are Bridgestones or Michelin.

I went through 2 sets of EL 42's (well the second one Acura gave me for free) I havent used any other tire on the TL hence I cant be the best judge but these tires are not bad IMHO for an all season - I hear the same complaints for the Michelins as well (well except the treadwear)....

also you can make a deal with the dealer to swap them out before you pick up the car, maybe he would charge a couple of 100 $...

I went from the EL42's on my stocks to Falken FK452's on my 19's and I couldn't believe how much better the falkens were!

Supposedly re-formulated...

Wow, first post since 2004??!
The EL-42s were allegedly reformulated at some point in 2005, but some members here went through a set of the newer EL-42s (like scrb09 ^^) and were still displeased.
I've seen many more complaints about the EL-42s than the Michelins, and don't have any complaints about the Michelins on my car.
You may want to have the dealer swap out for the Michelins from a Navi-equipped car.

Premature wear, excessive noise, flatspotting... try a search using "Turanza," Bridgestone" and "problems" or something like that. It should pull up numerous threads. I assume the complaints/problems were worse before Acura issued the TSB and the EL-42s were reformulated.
and welcome to Acurazine too!

I have on 06 with a 6 speed that only comes with the Bridgestone Potenza RE030
in Canada. In the US they are optional. These are the WORST tire I have ever had.
Like you I had to replace them. Every time it rained all they would do is spin, and I'm not talking about hard acceleration. I complained to the dealer and they did agree to replace them at their cost, but it was going to be more than my regular tire guy was charging for the same tire. On top of the extremely poor traction they have a wear rating of 140. I realize we are talking about a different tire but with all the negative comments I read about the factory installed Bridgestone tires I would insist they be changed at no charge to you before you sign the deal. I just wish I had known prior to signing. Good luck.
