Drag wheels/tires setup
So yes, I realize I drive a heavy fwd sedan. That being said I still would like to run this car down the 1/4. 07 tl type s 6mt. I was searching and could not find a lot, Ive never put a drag radial on a fwd car so this is new to me. I was going to pick up a set of stock tl wheels and throw a drag radial on it. Was hoping to stay 26in tall. Curious to see what my options are and if anyone has a setup for the drag strip- Thanks

Trying to find more info on his setup (I just found him on IG) but I hear he keeps it pretty private. Looks like he has 15's up front, which means smaller rotors and calipers, AKA way too much work for me at least.
But you said putting them on stock wheels . I'd be VERY surprised if MT ET's (or similar) come in anything bigger than 15"s, for obvious reasons.
How much are you willing to invest in a FWD drag?

haha Yes Ive seen that car and this isn't my main project car it's my summer daily driver so Im definitely not committed enough to change the front brakes. I am buying a set of stock tl wheels and looking at MT drag radials, they have a 245-45-17 which I think would be close to what I would want. Along with Mickey Thompson, Toyo also makes good tires that are 17s but pretty pricey. I really cant dump much money into it because of other things going on, just would like a set of wheel/tires in the corner of the garage I can throw on and go to the local track with when Im bored

LMAO my type-S is the summer DD too, the 2000 TL is the true winter beater. Glad to see I'm not the only crazy one
Do you have coilovers up front? That'd make it a lot easier to fit slicks, not only to be able to raise it up if it's scrubbing, but mostly because they usually have more inboard clearance for wideee tires than stock springs/shocks.
I too am curious what I could run in the 1/4 so I'll probably just lower the PSI on my DWS' that are mounted on the waffles, maybe make a dozen passes then that's it. Just to scratch my itch.

You sir are definitely not the only crazy one! My suspension is koni yellows with h n r sports, a little low up front so I plan to raise it on the highest perch this summer. That being said I think itll be okay because the mt or Nitto 245-45 is labeled as 25.7" and my current tire size is like a balloon at 215-55-17 which I think is 26". I did not not put those tires on, they are way too tall and narrow for the car. But I think those dr's should be fine going in a straight line. Im trying to find a set of used ones buut no luck in that size, Darn FWD problems, My mustang is so easy to find wheels/tires for

Seems like a ton of trouble to go thru just to make some passes with your DD.
I guess that's beside the point.
I think whatever DR you can find will work. The car makes under 300hp and weighs 3500+LB. I don't believe you should have any real traction issue at a prepped track. I think even a sticky 200TW street tyre would overwhelm the clutch and motor mounts if the track is prepped properly.
DR's are a slippery slope to needing axles, mounts, and clutches. I'm assuming the car is manual? If its automatic...you're really wasting the DR.
I assume a manual TL-S should run like 14.2 to 14.0 with 200TW ...or like 13.8 to 13.9 with a DR. You'll need to MASSIVELY abuse the gear shift and driveline to get to either goal.

Not really a ton of trouble, just a set of dr's and a cheap set of wheels. Brolando I do agree with you that this car is definitely not set up fro drag racing. That being said a couple times down the track will not kill the clutch or engine mounts. All mounts are about to be replaced anyways I just figured Id see what the old girl has. From what I've read realistic stock numbers are anywhere from 14.3-14.7, not fast by any means but not terrible. With my mods I was hoping to get about a 13.5-13.8 and call it a day. Mods are pcd's, jpipe, IM spacer with the thermal gasket, 4in cai, and of course the check valve delete. Honestly I want to just to say I did and scratch that itch. My main car will not be ready this year so Im just a little anxious.

In the 13's is def respectable for a full weight (??) sport LUXURY sedan, especially a DD!!
I'd wanna do it to mine for the same exact reason; just to scratch the itch, see what the ol' girl has in her.
Just curious what you were launching @ with DR's? 5K?
It's been a couple years since I've taken a FWD down the 1/4 so I forget what a good 60' is; is 2.0 doable?

So this was on continental extreme contact tires so just street tires. 27-29 psi, It totally spun first time so after I just let off near idle and feathered the throttle n punched it. Best 60 ft was a 2.11-not bad for street tires. I just wanted to see what it could do and I do not plan on going back. I just wanted to prove I could go 13s with a pretty stock car. A better 60ft is attainable but will definitely test your clutch and axles. My car did not like repeated runs.
