Discuss: Tein SS Coilovers vs A-Spec Springs vs Stock (Ride Quality vs Looks)
 

I've been searching for a while and can't seem to find a topic that covers my question.

In terms of the trade off between ride quality vs looks (since we all know the Teins will make the TL look damn sexy) which is the best?

Basically, I bought a TL with Tein SS Coilovers already installed, and my neck/back are not used to the rough ride. I've tried to lift it to minimize the drop, but the ride quality makes me want to switch out for something else.

Would you (keeping in mind I am using the 18" A-Spec rims for the summer and the 17" rims for the winter)

a) go with the 'AT' A-spec suspension (how much of a drop are we expecting compared to stock? Less than 1"?) and is ride quality alot better than the Teins?

b) go with the stock 3g TL suspension to maximize ride quality (I can't find a picture of a TL with A-Spec kit incld wheels with stock springs to compare looks)

I know this question has alot of variables, but any and all help is appreciated.

Looks do it for me, so I'd stay with the Tein SS Coilovers :2cents: But if you really need more comfort, go with A-Spec suspension. It's about a 1 inch drop and offers very good performance.

get the a-spec suspension. it offers the best ride but doesn't look as good as the teins. it's not as mushy as the stock suspension but not as stiff as the teins so it's ideal for a daily driver on rough roads.

the drop on the a-spec is about 3/4". if you put the 6mt a-spec on your AT it'll drop the front a tiny bit more because the AT is about 100 pounds heavier than the 6mt in the front due to the AT transmission.

doesnt SS have dampening ....

Have you tried softening up the setup by adjusting the dampening? if not, do that first.

If its still too harsh for you, i would suggest you go for the aspec. I have the aspec on 235/40/18 Eagle GTs (a "harder" tire, or so i hear) and the ride is very comforable. it really feels like stock suspension minus the float when going straight and in turning/cornering, it holds its ground much better with less body roll.

Aspec suspension is awesome when it comes to ride quality and performance. Only reason I switched to Tein SS was for the height adjustability. With that said the ride on the Tein SS is not that bad. You can adjust the dampening if you feel its a bit firm. The decision comes down the what you want. If you care most about ride quality get the Aspec. If you care most about the look keep the Tein SS. Nobody on here can make that decision for you.

whats the spring rates between the two??

If U set the damping on the Tein SS halfway or softer the ride is great and handles great. I lowered my car to the Tein SS instructions which is about 1.5" lower F&R, and I set damping in the middle. Car looks, rides, handles great.
