Dealer Replacing EL42s With RE030s

Is this a good thing, or do I drive straight to a Michelin dealer for Pilot AS.

Is that what you want ? A Summer or an All-Season tire

The Re030's are summer only tires and have a treadwear rating of 140, in all likelyhood they will only last you one summer.

Pilot AS and RE030 are completely different tires, if you want an all-season tire that has a wear rating of 400 then go with the Michelins

The Michelin dealer offered me $40 Cdn. for the tires - with three miles on them, that makes the Pilot AS only $1,250 Cdn. to purchase. That's out of the question. My dealer said the RE030's are the replacement for defective EL42's.
I haven't driven far enough to make a performance opinion, but they are one noisy, singing tire. They feel like I'm driving on cordoroy roads.
Unfortunatly all four rims were scraped all around the outside during the installation - the dealer said they would take care of it. Should I accept a paint job or hold out for new rims.

I live in Nova Scotia and would have preferred AS tires, but I do have a set of snows for the winter.
Is there an issue with temperature with the RE030s?

That would be better than the three days wear I got out of thr EL 42s. They wore completely out on the rear in a trip to Florida - 2,200 miles.
The rerurn trip wore out another set of rears.
I had the alignment checked and it was only at the limits in one measurement, but the rubber was literally ripped off the tires.
The car was carrying four adults, with luggage - but well within the load capacity of the car.
I suspect the rear geometry is drastically off when carrying loads.

bluenoser,

You have winter tires, right? Had your winter tires wore out as your EL42s? What the winter tires are you using?

I have 205-60-16 Canadian Tire Nordic Track snows on 16" Acura RL alloys, and they worked great with very little wear. They spent four winters on my 99 TL and one on the 04 - 5 months each year...ugh!! They will probably last another 3-4 winters.
The RL rims have the same onset and are 6.5"wide, which means the offset is 1.5" less than the 04 rims.

You had an Audi equipped with RE030's? My 2000 S4 came with RE040's. They were a pretty decent tire for me, however they only lasted about 12k miles.

I prefer to have the rear end suspension and alignment checked prior to having the brand new tires. If it's not the EL42s' fault, you probably will wear out another new tires very soon.
