Curbed My Rim BAD! w/pix Need Advice

So heres the story, i was in Madison at my brothers place, the approach to the parking structure is really steep and i now have my car lowered so i didn't want to scrap when leaving, while i was leaving with a good approach taking up both lanes sideways, there was a car that was coming in so i backed up, and as i was backing up, (at night, and not famililar with my surroundings) i backed up into a small block retaining wall, about 3 blocks high, and scrapped the piss out of my rim and gouged the tire. I didnt know what happend at first but i pulled away to better light and saw what happen. I would have rather not had it happen, but if i had to take my choice of the car scrapping or the rim, i would take the rim .

Anyways i was looking for info and advice i called Acura of Brookfield they said every monday they have a guy come and "fix rims" for $150.00. So what would he do sand it down flush and smooth, and paint that section right? I asked if there was a paint code for the rim, because i could sand it down my self and paint it, but he said there isnt... Does anyone know of a paint code for the TL-S rim? Is there? What would match the best? What should i do? I dont mind paying 150 to get it fixed, but if i could fix it for myself for 30 i would rather do that.

Ouch! That sucks!
Honestly, I'd rather leave that to a professional and have it look perfect. They'll have to strip, fill, sand, re-paint, then re-clear the wheel.

If you take it there to have fixed make sure you find out the method the guy uses to fix the rims. I have seen guys use a type of bondo to fill in the gauges, sound that down and then paint the rim. It looks ok I just don't like the idea, and not convinced that it would last.

Jeebuz that curb ate a chunk of your tire and the rim. It's going to take a lot of work to repair this. I'd rather look for someone selling one rim. It's a good reason to upgrade to aftermarket wheels too.

To do it properly...yes. Typically, paint blending is done at a seam or crease where the transition from new to old paint is less noticeable. Since over half your wheel edge is curbed, I would think they would strip the whole wheel, braze on any additional material that is needed, then sand and paint/finish. Years back I had bought a set of badly curbed, but straight; OZ F1 wheels and took it to a local repair shop and that's what they had done. A proper job will make the rims look better than new.

If someone is just going to slop filler on, lightly sand and repaint the affected area, it will look like sh!t! You'd be better off to buy a new/used wheel as stated above.

I wouldn't say that it's unsafe...there looks to be no cords/belts showing. Take it to a (reputable) tire shop and see what they say. IMO, you've take off a bit of rubber off the rim bead protector but I don't think that you've affected the structural integrity of the tire. You could most likely still drive it until next Spring.

I don't know about that just friday around noon I was traveling minding my own business had to dart into the shoulder to avoid the fool infront of me who's tire blew (likely from rolling on a poorly infalted tire)... anyway he had a blowout and I am driving on the left lane doing like 55 in a 50... had to dart and pretty much ran over hommies tire

don't give someone poor advice that they are ok for a year or so ok... its not safe to even roll with that tire and thats that... go buy a used tire for $50 from your local junkie tire shop...

a tire thats been plugged is safer than that

I agree with stillhere... if you continue to ride on that tire you're pretty much rolling the dice on this one.

In My Opinion, I said the tire didn't seem unsafe but if you read my post I actually recommended that he take it to a reputable tire shop to have them look at it and judge whether it's safe or not. Unless you have x-ray vision, you can't tell whether the tire is safe or not by looking at a few pix.

But buying a used tire from a "junkie tire shop"....yeah, that's great advice.

yeah I would definately get that one fixed by a professional. I fixed mine at home but it was only two inches. However I can still tell where it was up close as the paint and bondo is slightly noticeable. Due to the amount of damage on yours and the amount of work you would have to do, I would get a professional. Also after all that effort put in, it still won't be perfect.

So much for that.

I am amazed that it actually took a chunk out of the tire. I have never seen that before. But since you said you were eventually planning on getting new wheels anyways, I would just roll with the wheels as is until you're ready to replace them. Don't worry bout getting them fixed. I would however get a new tire cause that looks bad.

i bought a CBP type-s and I have a similar situation with my rims. I only curbed my tire once on the left front tire when I first got it, however allllll my rims are scratched up!! A lot of people, including police officers have told me that my dealership sold me the wrong tires with the car and so the rims are protruding out way too much, which is causing the excessive scratching. Has anyone had this problem or does that explanation even make any sense?
