Correct Tire Size for 18 x 8.5

Ok, according to the Fitment Guide the correct tire is 245/40/18. The A-Spec package includes 235/40/18 tires. Which is correct? The main factors to me are:

1. Proper speedometer reading (No recalibration needed)
2. Ride Quality
3. Rim protection (Tire hits before rim on a curb)

From the perspective of the manufacturer who designed the suspension on which the speedometer is calibrated the *correct* size is 235/40-18. Having said that I went with the 245/40 size for reasons 2 & 3. The difference in tire diameter is 0.2" which translates to a negligible speedometer error, IMHO.

Well unless you are talking about the 04 A-Spec wheels, the 05 & 06 are 18x8. The "right" size is 235/40/18. It was the recommended size even for the 18x8.5.

People normally get the 245/40/18 for a little bit more rim protection. The difference is negligible. I think someone said that at 60mph the variance is only .6 mph.

If you want the protection and to fill up the wheelwell slightly get the 245s. Otherwise get the 235s (as I did). This decision doesn't have much of a consequence in terms of calibration.

Compare the two using this comparator guide. Just fill in the tire and wheel size to see the differences. It will also figure out the speedo error.

That link isn't working for me. I just don't get that the Fitment Guide that is stickied would have the incorrect tire size. Even if it is a very minute % off, why would that be stickied if its the wrong size? Oh well, live & learn

OK, the site was up this morning. Try this one. I just checked the previous site and looks like it's up. Give it a shot.

I have the '04 18x8.5 A-Spec wheels and replaced mine with 265-35-18's. Couldn't be happier. Looks great, and have alot of rim protection since those wheels are getting harder and harder to find.

The speedometer is not off by much. The comparator in this thread said 3% slower at 60 MPH. Works for me.
