Mystery solved....

So I finally had some time the other day and decided to pull my wheels one by one and check the tires closely. I started with the front left and....

I found a ~1.5" double pointed nail (maybe 3/32" in diameter) stuck into the tread about half way (~0.75"), parallel with the tread. I assume the part sticking out was making contact with the pavement and causing the road noise that I was hearing. I pulled it out and the noise is now gone. I must have hit that nail almost immediately after rotating the tires, because I did (and always do) a thorough check of each wheel/tire when I rotate.

I'm still a bit disappointed with the rate of road noise increase with mileage on these tires, but they continue to give very good performance.

Just got mine rotated for the first time and I did not notice any more noise than before. I have been pleased with these tires and they perform very well, I would get them again. I wound up getting them at Sears as well and had Acura install them, cheaper overall.

i've had mine on for about 20k miles and i have no more noise than when i first got them. i rotate every 5k and align every 10k. i love them! but my next set is going to be a summer tire since my car has yet to see snow or low temps in 9 years

Hmmm, strange, because mine are noticeably more noisy and are getting to the point where I don't think I will be a repeat customer because of the noise level.... I am running the larger tire on an 18" wheel, however, and that may account for the difference, dunno.

I used to mix tires like this back in the mid 90's until my car spun out on a wet road because of the traction difference between the two tires making my car unstable to drive. Was not a good Idea. Hopefully the past 7 years with them have been kind to you.

I have these tires.they have a lot of rubber on the ground. Great for winter but make more noise because of all the rubber on the ground. And these are somewhat soft. Soft side walls. If you run the tire too low, you may get a bubble from damage
I am looking for some quieter summer tires.

** I just noticed.. Old post. They may not even sell these tires anymore.

FWIW, Consumer Reports rates 3 Ultra High-Performance A/S tires as Recommended:

Goodyear Exhilarate
Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+

And my faves:
General GMax AS-05

Have you ever watch running shoe reviews on YouTube? They're all good. Just about.
I will say these tires are not as bad as the cheap Douglas Walmart tires but in my opinion they do have weak side walls. But the dws are cheap tires so there is some value there.. and they look fairly sporty but they also make a lot of noise and I don't think they're good for summer Tires.. that's why they are all-season which is Meh.. But Hey.. to each their own. Opinions are like bungholes. Everyone has one. =}

but I wish I could get my hands on some of the Pilot Sport 5's. But not available yet in USA per Michelin customer support.

DWS06 Plus came out Q1 2021 and have been great. They are just like the originals with improvements to snow capabilities and better performance.

Based on their testing, Continental found that the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS offers:
  • Up to 2% faster handling in wet and dry conditions
  • 9% shorter braking distances on wet roads, and 4% shorter on dry roads
  • 11% better traction, handling, and braking performance on snowy roads
  • 6% better traction, handling, and braking performance on icy roads
  • A quieter ride and longer tread life

I have about the same experience like you. Put a set back in Dec 2019, they have ~25k miles on them right now, were made around middle of 2019, have ~6/32 of thread front and rear.

Noise got worse over time, but recently I'm sure they don't have as much traction as they used to have. I've been driving daily past couple years same route, taking one highway ramp at 50mph easy, but recently they started squealing every time, so I'm reducing speed now. I did some "testing" with hard braking or trying to accelerate on that ramp and it's much easier to get them to squeal than before. Also, getting car to under-steer on wet corner is much easier now. I'm sure suspension and alignment are good. So must be just how this tire wear.
Funny enough, my dad has DWS on his Hyundai, so different size, but recently he started complaining about noise as well, although no idea how many miles he has on them. And just like you, on some road surfaces they are quiet, but most of the time too noisy for my liking.

Recently I've got separate set of winters, so probably will get some other tires when those get too annoying or wear out.
