Coilovers worth it if only going 1- 1.5"
I need to lower my car asap! but I cant decide which direction I should take and need some advice! I just want to get rid of some of my wheel gap nothing crazy probably just 1- 1.5" max. I was really tempted to get the Aspec which would almost give me 1" but for the price it just seems like too much and the drop is not quite enough which I might be disappointed with. The next options would be Tein springs or the H&R springs but I am very weary of replacing just the springs because in the past the ride quality suffered greatly with my last car, also I would probably need to replace the struts or at least it would be a good idea. Next would be coilovers probably the Tein basic or Tein SS but would a coilover even be worth the money it if I don't plan on going that low? Would it still provide the best ride over a spring only replacement?

Coilovers is the proper way to do it.
Also, you may have made up your mind now... but I wouldn't doubt that it would change and you'll be happy you bought coilovers to adjust how low you really want to drop it anytime you wish.
I would recommend the Tein Basics for your situation.

I'm wondering the same thing. It seems the main argument for going with coilovers is the adjustability. If so, what about getting springs + adjustable shocks like the Koni SP3's?

I would go with coils Roger, but instead of getting the SS, I would just get the TEIN Basic. Unless you are very particular with the way you want the suspension set up, the Basic will get you your 1"-1.5" drop with no problems.
Plus getting brand new coilovers means your stock shocks can sit around and not be used until you sell the TL

Im going to be "that guy" and say no they are not worth it, With that drop i would just do a set of springs and aftermarket shocks. Get the ride height you want and never worry about it again.
with that ride height go with the "set it and forget it" approach.

Roger,
I've stewed over/researched this same question quite a bit myself, and I think Tein Basic is the way to go. I want the same drop you are talking about. And btw I also happen to live in Cary...but Cary, IL.

op. if ur like me and cant make up ur mind about how low u want to go, just get some coils. if ride quality is more key, get coils that have dampening adjustability (tein ss). if money is a problem, grab the neuspeed supercup kit. only thing is that once u set the height and want to change it, you wil have to remove the entire assembly to change the perch height. a big PIA i found out the hard way but im finally at a height i love so no more foolin around with it. my $.02

I opted to get the Tokico blues and Tein S-tech springs. I was in your position as well, not really looking to slam it and still wanted a smooth ride. Apparently, coilovers aren't as harsh as I've been used to My ride quality is just as good, if not better, than stock. Only downfall is that the ride height is now set. I don't have the option to lower/raise it.
