Coilovers and exhaust
hello!!
i just purchased a 2008 type S to replace my Civic for commuting duty. Completely stock. I want to eventually lower the car a bit to make it look "better", not slamming it or joining stance nation or anything like that. It seems to me that the Tein coilovers seem to be popular for the TL. I had Tein coilovers on my other car and it's harsh and bouncy so I replaced it with KW3. Is there any other option besides Tein? Any good shop in SoCal that can install it?
ALso, what exhaust that sounds better than stock? Something that's well made and doesn't look like it is made out of somebody's garage.
those are the only two mods that I want for the car.

Which Teins did you have that were harsh and bouncy? Were they set up correctly?
If you only want to lower the car between 1/2 to 1":
I guess you could look into using Koni yellows on the low perch with stock springs. But I wouldn't recommend it.

- You can build a Koni/GC kit.
- I think H&R makes a street performance kit for TL's.
- Tein Street Advance work well if you set them up correctly.

My other car was installed with the Tein flex coilovers . I bought it from a guy who owned a performance shop so I would think he installed it corrrectly.

The flex is a very agressive setup that requires tuning to get right. Its a decent shock...but you'd need to spend time on them.
Any full body coilover will require tuning to get right. They're geared toward people who want to slam the car.
If you're buying a single-point adjustable, you'll luck out a lot better...as long as you're not lowering the car much.

My next suspension mod will be made from my garage. I can get exactly what I want, just the right spring rate, at just the right height, at about 1/5th of the price.

Hey guys,
Just wanted to chime in quick! The Teins are a popular option for sure, and the best option at that price point if you ask me! I'd say 9 out of 10 people I talk to are happy with them. The Flex Zs are a great choice, and will cost you much less than a KW setup that offers similar adjustability.
BROlando is right however, and you will almost definitely have to do some fine tuning to get them to ride to your liking (same goes for most setups), so if you're looking for a "set it and forget it" type setup I would recommend a KW V1 since those offer fixed dampening with adjustable ride height. Back on the Flex Zs quick; they have 16 clicks of dampening adjustment, and everything within that 16 click range is usable without under/over dampening - so you have quite a window to play with and dial in the ride! Recommended settings for the 3G TL is 8 clicks in the front and 10 in the rear for those wondering.
As far as exhausts go, we have our XLR8 systems available for that platform! Far from garage built, and they sound pretty killer in my unbiased opinion . You can find them here on our website! Everything is 304 stainless and built inside of the US with fitment, finish, and performance in mind.
