Well with spray paint I would suggest you take them off to make sure it dont get anywhere its not suppose to be. I used a dublicolor caliper kit, and itvwas a brush on, so easy

OP, is it the VHT high temp paint? It's what I used in blue.. and worked perfect me. I did not remove my calipers at all, I just disconnected them from the caliper mount etc, cleaned them with a wire brush and carb cleaner then blew them off with the air compressor. I then used painter's tape and taped everything off such as the inside of the caliper (piston area) as well as the brake lines.

Then I just hung a sheet inside my fender well over my rotor/spindle/etc to keep from getting any over-spray anywhere, and just applied the paint in light coats; keeping any excess paint on the caliper as much as possible. The rattle can job worked perfect for me, but I have seen others paint their calipers while they were still connected

Oh yeah don't touch them with bare hands before painting, put on latex gloves. And just make sure they're free of brake dust/oil/grease

I bought a Duplicolor kit that you apply with a brush. I didn't want to take off the caliper, because knowing my luck, I would screw something up.

Yes it takes longer but I feel like I did a much better job than a rattle can could have done

I did my RL calipers off the car using G2 epoxy based paint. Results were great and it's going strong after 3-4 months. We also painted my brother in law's GS350 calipers using G2 with calipers completely mounted on the car. Basically used paper towels and the provided brake cleaner in fhe kit to clean it thoroughly before brushing the paint on.

I put my car up on a lift. Took all four wheels off. Left the calipers on. Got the Duplicolor kit. Cleaned the calipers really good with spray on brake cleaner. Let dry. You may need to take a wire brush to them to get all the dirt off. Painted one caliper and moved around the car painting the others. By the time I got around to the 1st one, it was ready for the next coat. I painted 3 coats on each caliper. Came out great! Nice to have the calipers on the lift a eye level too.

I used a Dremel on my calipers to smooth out the "roughness" of the calipers. Feels great, and got off all the extra gunk from them. I highly recommend that you brush on the paint and don't use spray paint. I made this mistake before and within three months I was painting all over again.

i did zero research before doing mine but let me share my experience (even tho i see you're getting some great advice from others). i only had to do my rears (calipers and rotors) since i have the type-S but i just took off my wheels and brushed black rust-o-leum on them, no cleaning, no masking, just took my time and did two coats. it's been over a year and they look the same as the day i did them. now i feel lucky after reading all the advice from people in this thread. here's a pic. good luck.

its best if your remove the calipers and spray them off the rotor to get a more detailed look. however spraying them on the car is not so bad, take a plastic bag and cover the rotor as best as your can and don't got nuts take your time or your will get over spray on your suspension and inner fender well. usually at my shop we try to remove the rotors but if they are being cheap and don't want to spend the money we spray them on and just be careful and 2-3 coats should be plenty

All of this is just sinking in... I rthink my primary hesitation is I dont know SHIT about brakes. Thus i guess i'm weary to do anything I dont feel totally comfortable with... Either way.. I've decided, I'm going to do it the right way. I'm gonna pull em. While I have the rotors right there I'm gonna take them and have them turned( car almost has 50k miles on it so I figure it couldnt hurt). I'm gonna clean them and paint them shits and I'll let you guys know the outcome. (pix included) Project starts Wednesday.

Oh and is it true to let them sit overnight and cure before I touch them etc?

Thanks!!

I have used G2 on my last 4 cars. I have always replaced the pads when I was doing it. Buy an extra can of the cleaner/degreaser. The one they give you in the kit is just not enought to really clean the calipers. I used a scotch pad and solvent to clean and painted as many coats as the kit would allow. I have never had any issues, and they look great! The brush stokes melt into and paint and look as if they were sprayed!
