Bridgestone RE960AS wearing fast?

So my RE960AS's have about 12,000 miles on them. Based on a warrantied 40,000 miles, this is about 30%. That said, I had my tread depth measured today and it was 5/32nd for both front and back. This seems like its wearing fast, since it started from 9/32nd. Its basically 1/2 way through the tread.

By no means have I driven the car aggressively. In fact, with the Michelin MXM4's, I got 46,000 miles with still 2 or 3 32nds left.

Anyone have a similar experience with the RE960AS's?

I have put over 20K on my RE960AS rotate on a regular basis and I am at like 8/32nd. So not sure what could be the problem. Are the wearing properly? or is it wearing unevenly??

I called the Service Advisor today and he indicated that the techs may differ in how they measure the tread depth. Some may measure it to the wear bar, and other may measure it down to _____ (I didn't get the term). He said the difference can result in a depth difference of +2/32 or so with the latter method of measuring.

Anyone heard of these different ways to measure? Either way, I've rotated the first time at 5k or so, and the next one is going to be at 12.5k (during the next oil change, so in about another 500 miles).

Normal way to measure is to the top of the wear bars. If the bars are even with the rest of the tread its history.

Yeah, the proper way is to measure at the "wear" bar.

I measured mine when I put them on Sunday, they measured about 10/32 but I was not measuring to the wear bar, when I stored them I think I only had 5-10,000 km on them, basically brand new. their tread wear garuntee takes me to 64,000km lol thats like 4 years for me.

Alas, my wife took my car into the dealership and the SA measured it himself today. He had me on the phone and measured each tire in several places. All of them were at 9/32nd. Thus, we concluded that the service tech did not even measure them in the first place. He either eyeballed them, or wrote down what he thought they would be.
