best tread life and smooth performance doesn't go hand in hand together. You either get grip exchange for short tread life OR long tread life exchange for less grip, its all depend on how many miles you put on the car yearly.

I am inclined to look for the same properties in a tire as you; I finally settled on the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All-Seasons. I'm having them mounted tomorrow, and with a treadlife rating of 700, I'm expecting to get an easy 60,000+ miles out of them.

In Texas, it's summer year round. I wrap my wheels with the stickest, widest tires I can.
Does that answer your question?
no it does not, because you do not drive like I do...and you most likely dont live in texas....

Personally I use Michelin Pilot Super Sport on the Type Slow car, I want grip since the suspension from the factory already set perfect for gripping corner a set usually lasted 15k-20k miles (no worry) its cheap to buy and that TL is staying garage most of the time.

I live in Houston where snow is almost non existed and temperature usually within optimal performance of the tire. On the 2 Base TL and the RL I have Pilot Sport A/S 3+, again it cheap but last longer than PSS and I don't drive those two hard as the Type Slow.

If you planning to use the car in light snow I would recommend you look at Continental DWS06 they are reasonable price and will get the job done. I had used all the tires from Continental Sport Contact to extreme contact, Potenza RE070, Dunlop that came on Lexus GS F sport or ISF and Mitchelin from all season to PSS.

Using sticky tire also come with hidden cost as it another topic,

Several threads and even a spreadsheet in one thread comparing all sorts of variables.
I picked up Conti DWS06 last year and have been very happy with the performance in wet and snow. Cheaper than stock Michelins and much better in winter (CT).

The brand is somewhat irrelevant. You will need to focus on the specific model of tire, not just the brand. Michelin and Continental make some great tires, some ok tires, and some crap tires depending upon the use case and models. When you say Michelin, are you talking about the Primacy MXM4, the Pilot Sport A/S 3+, or the X-Ice Xi3? All three are excellent tires for specific use cases while at the same time absolutely horrible tires for other use cases.

There are gobs of threads already out there that cover this topic fairly well...at least at the generic level that you have approached it. If you have a more specific requirement to dig at, then maybe yet another thread is needed....but in general the general tire discussion has been covered very well already.

Yokohama YK740 GTX is what I switched to after using Michelin products all these years. The ride is just as quiet, which is a big thing for me, but the handling is superior on all levels. From what I understand it doesn't fair well with in-climate weather conditions (heavy snow) but that's not an issue in southern Cali. I do a lot of freeway miles and moderate levels of in town cruising so if this is you then you should consider this tire.

I switch to Yokohamas on our former Mazda3 and GTI; I was initially very pleased with the tires, however, by 10,000 miles both sets of tires were so noisy it was difficult to carry on a conversation in the car. Switching both to Pirellis solved the problem; even after 40,000+ miles the Pirelli tires were still very quiet.
