Best All-Season Tires for 17"x8" Wheels

I made a mistake by buying Michelin Pilots for my car. They still have 70% tread left, but have worn poorly, causing cupping on the tires that makes the ride rough and loud. The previous tires on the car were Pilots, but were apparently a different version that was way better than the A/S 3+ I have now.

What good all-season tires are there for 17"x8" wheels? I'm looking for a quiet and smooth ride.

www.tirerack.com is your friend - and you need to cover the basics and make sure you have good alignment. Cupping of tires is typically a sign of alignment issue.

Thanks, this site is perfect! Oh hey, there is a different version of the Michelin Pilots. Whoops.

I actually had an alignment a few months ago, due to a pothole, but the tires haven't smoothed out at all since. I had my car inspected at an Acura dealership last week, but my car checks out fine, just cupped tires.

Post your alignment specs. You should solve the root cause of the cupping not just blaming the tires; tires don’t cup themselves, poor alignment and failing suspension parts cause it

Once tires are cupped, they will always be cupped. Based on your generic statement of smooth and quiet, you should be looking for Grand Touring tires. Generally in the Michelin world, that would be something out of the Primacy or Premier product line not out of the Pilot product line.

In the past I had earlier versions of the Pilot Sport AS+ and had bad wear issues as well. I went from those back to Primacy MXM4 and was extremely pleased. My last set of tires were Pirelli P-Zero AS+ and generally liked those as well.

I've been running Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Seasons on my TL; so far they have over 35,000 miles on them, no cupping, no noise.

Michelin tires are like Starbuck's coffee, overrated and overpriced. The best deal in A/S tires right now are the ones I'm on my 2nd set of, The General GMax AS-05's. They're highly rated (500AA) and you can't beat the price. As as a 16-year owner of a performance 3G TL having tried all the top brands (Michelin, Continental, Goodyear, Cooper, etc.), I can honestly say at this point, I wouldn't buy anything else. See the AS-05's info here

We know Tire Rack is a reputable company, and I even bought my donut spare replacement from them since I couldn't get one anywhere else, tires are something you should buy from whoever installs them. That way, you'll only have ONE entity to deal with if there's ever a problem.

I currently have Continental ExtremeContact Sport on my TL and they have been great for the summers. Spring and fall are a little hairy here in Wisconsin since i switch to X-ICE for winter. So when the weather is around freezing in the morning and 60 plus during the day both tires are no good in October. With about 22K on the summer tires i have about 6/32 left. I'm thinking about ditching them now for General GMax AS-05's as my 3 season set or some time in 2021.

Also I had the worst time getting my spare mounted at my tire rack installer. I was the "guy with the donut" and told we dont mount those. and she had worked there for 15 years and no one had ever mounted a donut. I wanted to say "Listen lady, I don't care that this town is full of people with bad spare tires, I'm okay with being the first." She had to call someone and they approved it but she told me to go to the dealer before that. Then when i brought back there one guy said it was fine to mount and another guy said "we dont mount those." Looks mounted okay and i've never used it.

^Thats really weird! Why would it be any different than mounting any other tire on a rim?

Probably a good idea for me too check my 16yr old donut for tire rot, as I’ve never used it, and would hate to drive on it one day, and have that blowout!

Can't speak specifically to donut spares, but most tire manufactures recommend replacement of tires at the 10 year mark.

OP - I put a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 on my daughter's Accord and we were very please with them. They were also a big hit amongst the Acurazine crowd for a long time. Take a look at them also.

For what it's worth, I just sold my 2005 TL a few weeks ago and checked the spare while cleaning the car out. It looked brand new and was still holding air just fine. Not being exposed to sunlight nor salt, dirt, grime, etc for the most part keeps them in better shape than expected.

Like I said about buying tires from the entity that installs them............

As for the donut, Tire Rack sells the original Bullshitstone replacement for around $260, which is insane. They also have a Yokohama donut in the exact same size for about $120. Case closed.
