Beefy Tire Setups, Show Us What You've Got!

Finally got my 265's on, and honestly, they would have fit without a roll at the height I run. I'm thinking of raising it slightly and getting 275's for the rear. But this will do for now. Quick driveway shot.

It was just a quick driveway shot, I just got them on. They're not unlike the 255's I had on there really, such subtle differences. I think less than 10mm wider, and .7" shorter.

These two pix are pretty different, but you can see the small differences in the tire for sure.

I think with this tire a 275 would fit if the ride height was right, and there was a tight roll. I barely rolled mine, and really I don't think I had to at all. It might have touched barely on big bumps, but I'm honestly doubting it.
#208
Yeah, for sure. I may lower it a little more tomorrow, have to do some math on it first, golden ratio stuff lol. Until then...

I want to run a 265, but on a 18x9 +35. The difference in width/offset basically is only 1mm of clearance MORE with the thinner wheel, but the inner clearance difference will actually push the TIRE a few millimeters further outward. I want to lower about 1.5"/1" F/R.
Coming from your experience, do you think I will have any issues? Also - what are your lowering amounts and camber settings?

You'll also poke 1.3mm less, which is really nothing.
So this is all about the drop. At stock height you will not rub, but the moment you start dropping it down you run the risk of rubbing until you drop it to the point to where the natural negative camber takes you back out of the rub range.
My *guess* is that you'll be fine in the front, although you'll have some poke, and you'll need to roll the front edge of the quarters where the pinch-weld flares out.

With a 9" wide wheel you'll be 11.4mm further away from the strut, so you're great there.
You'll also poke 1.3mm less, which is really nothing.

I plan on running SPC adjustable camber at all four corners, so you think I will be able to eliminate the front poke by giving it more negative camber? I can get the 0-1.5° kit and run -1° or should I get the kit that allows for even greater negative camber?

Thanks! For drivability, I only want to close the wheel well gap - maybe only 1 1/2 inches up front at most.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have a 2005 TL and I'm looking for your [exact] setup.... except with a 35 offset rim.
Is a 35 offset compatible with your tires?
If so, with or without modifications?
Thanks for your time.

I forgot to mention I'm only running stock suspension.

First, the tire will fit the wheel, if it's the exact specs (9.5" wide), but you're putting the wheels 5mm more outboard, and you really don't have 5mm to play with. Bone stock, no drop, you'll probably poke 10mm in the front, and 5mm in the rear @ 9.5 +35. If you want to stay stock height, and not poke, you'll need camber adjustments front and rear.

So let's say I do end up finding some 18x9.5's with a 40-offset....
Can I use the same setup (265/35/18) without altering the camber?
I'm basically looking for the widest stance I can get without modding.
#226
Thank you for the response. I don't want to alter the camber, but I definitely want to keep it relatively flush with the fender flare. I guess I might have to settle for a less appealing wheel.

You'll also need to choose your tire very wisely, something that's slightly shorter than stock, and no more than 9.7" tread width.
The Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2 in 265/35 fits the bill perfectly at 9.7" TW and 25.3" OD.

You really need 18 x 9.5 +45 if you want the widest tire possible on a deep wheel without altering the camber.

Hey do you think the Eagle F1 AS2 in 265/35 will sit nice & flush with that wheel @ that offset? I just wanna make sure I'm getting the right size so I can get this stock TL looking as tight as possible without suspension mods.

The Eagle F1 AS2 in 265/35 is absolutely flawless fitment for a 9.5" wheel on a TL IMO, just beautiful. The sidewall isn't too tall, nor too thin, the tire isn't too wide, or too skinny, just perfect IMO.
