Air Runner Install on the 3rd gen TL
Thought I’ll Share with Acurazine…
After years of contemplation about going Air… I finally decided to DO IT…
I had many options to choose from… Universal Air Suspension, K-Sport and Air Runner… I decided to go with Air Runner because of their proven history and quality. I ordered the Air Runner Kit for the Honda Accord 4 door ’03 – ’07… When I ordered the kit it was out of stock in the US, so I got it expressed air shipped from Japan. I received in about 3 weeks because they had to finish fabricating the kit.
I opted to go with the Dakota Digital Automatic Leveling system DHC-2002 – Pressure and Height based system… with remote control option… and with the Solenoid Valve block assembly… So the system will be completely digital…
One I ordered it I started configuring the trunk… I decided to throw away the custom fiberglass sub box I had in my spare tire well… This is the schematic I came up with… I opted for the Pancake Tank…
Then the kit arrived in NY…
Then I started to do the Plumbing…
While the tank was being painted WDP…
I put together the trunk setup so that it would be plug and play… All wires were soldered and put together with custom made connectors… With a ground bus bar on the upper left corner of the wood leveling board…
Once the trunk setup was done… I started to run the air line… I went with 3/8” OD DOT approved Air Brake lines… This is how I ran the lines…
These are the lines going to each front Strut and the third to the Truck Horns under the front bumper... This is with the Heat shield moved out the way... the heat shield bolted up between the lines and the Exhaust.... you notice one line is in the subframe... ;D
This is the rear of the car where all the front lines converge and come into the car... that opening was existing and all it had was a gromet covering it... it enters under the rear seats which was perfect cause that's where I had an opening to the trunk...
Additionally... all lines aren't visible once the OEM covers are re-installed... even if you have the car on a lift...
Shocks Installed…
It took us a total of 8 hours to do the complete install…
2 hours to setup the trunk…
2 hours to do all the electrical and tie in into the car…
2 hours to run the air airlines…
2 hours to install the air shocks…
I’m still haven’t finalizing the trunk final product and the mounting of the Dakota gauge in the interior… Once that’s completed I’ll share the results…
Scale from 1 to 10 .... 1 being easy and 10 being most dificult... this install was about a 6...
Thanks for looking...
Special thanks to... my Wife (for being patient ), Syer (Eddie), Ruben, Frank (TICO), FlavesLex, Vlad, Dkid23 (Danny), Steve, wrxyboy, Tri-State Vip and Gotham VIP (for pushing me to the limits)... for all the help during this process... ... I could not have done it without you guys...

The ride is really good... but it all depends on the pressure I run the on the bags... the lower the pressure the smoother the ride and the higher the pressure the stiffer the ride (lower and higher ride height, respectively)...
I'm still trying to fine tune the system to my liking, since the struts are 4 way dampening adjustable... similar to the Tein and Koni...
Thanks guys...

so... i've always wondered about these... i've always jsut seen them when the car is stopped and slammed. can you adjust the height to ANY height? What's driving height look like?

Yes... you can adjust to ANY height... at any time...
Driving height for me is tires tucked 1.27 cm (half inch) all around... I could go lower... I've actually driven at the height pictured above... but it gets real bouncy at that very low height... and the front upper control arms start to bang on the strut tower/frame...

VERY impressive. Looks sick!
Forgive the noob question, but is an airbag suspension just to completely tuck the wheels or are there other benefits vs. a normal coilover suspension?

Yeah or the on the ground setup. But its 6k for that TC-5 Setup. I dont plan to track this car since it is a heavy beast. But would be ideal for the TSX guys. If i keep trying to keep up with all these new air runner products i will never be satisfied... I am just glad that i have the 1st TL kit in the US and can appreciate that.

The wheels aren't here yet... so I can't show what I don't have... sorry bro...
Yeah man... I threw it away (but my installer might have picked it up out his dumpster, it's probably cracked )... I don't like to put shit up for sale that isn't going to sell within a couple of days... plus it was going to be at a major lose and my time and space is valuable to me... I live in NYC... space is at a premium... I also didn't want to deal with the questions I was going to be asked...
Subs... can wait... I'm high off the ability to adjust the height... that's my new thing... I go through stages when modding... music was last year and I pounded my ears off all last year... this year is STANCE... Low and Slow is what I'm into... But I might do a simple install on the rear deck with the two Alpine Type X 12" mounted there as a vented enclosure... I doubt it though...

Chill_dog... you know I try to be as helpfull as I can on this site... you know... first hand experience, real and without sugar coating anything...
I hope I was able to help people see and learn what getting an air system installed on a TL... once I dug into this install... I realized how simple it was... the hardest part was installing the shocks... and y'all all know how simple that was... the electrical was a piece of cake... power, ignition and ground...

Rodney do you have leaks on any of the airlines? For the life of me i cant seem to find where i have a fricken slow leak that soap bubbles dont even show it. Kind of irritating everytime i put the key into the ignition that the compressor comes on. Well atleast if i let it sit for about 4 or more hours.

no leaks... I had one when first installed but was fixed immediately... I knew where it was cause I only have 8 fittings to worry about... keeping it simple pays off in this type of install...
Just check which bag is actually deflating... and track it that way... you have the pressure senders connected right??? the display or car lean should tell you where it's coming from... if the whole things is on the ground... check your Source - Tank or solenoid valve manifold... Remember to never overtighten the fittings... cause that's where I had my leak....
As of now... my compressors haven't turned on in three days... and I have no display 'cause I sent it back to have it modified to blue lettering and chrome trim... only way I can adjust height is with my remote while the car is off...
I have 5 gallons or air capacity... 4 gallons from the pancake tank and 1 gallon tank under the front bumper which I previously used form my truck horns...
Let me know how it turns out...

I only have the compressor to tank connection and one connection from tank to the manual airlines. I dont have any of the bags on. I wanted to test these lines prior to the install. I guess in time the leak will show it self. I do know that the tank is leaking since the gauge does show a loss of pressure or maybe after a few fills it will work out all the kinks itself.

Struts are heavier than stock and springs... I'll say... 5 to 8 pounds more each strut... the whole tank and compressor setup on my panel was about 40 - 50 lbs... and that was with 2 compressors as opposed to just one.
Total I would estimate... 120 lbs... like a fine 5'-2" Latin/Asian/Caucasian/Black mamacita (or what ever floats your boat) in your passenger seat, but distributed around your car at all times...
