Adjusting Tein SS Dampers

How do you adjust your damping levels...

I dont even know where the 4 knobs are located.

What do you have to remove underneath the hood to access the damper knobs...do you have to remove the back seats to adjust the rear?

if there is a thread on this please post the link...I did a search...and did not find anything on it. The instructions dont say anything about where there located...I shoulda asked the install peoples but I was in a hurry that day.

Thanks.

I like them...I'm just trying to figure out the damping adjusting...

They come from the factory to their stiffest setting...so it can be bumpy sometimes (lowered aporx. 2' or just enough for there to be no wheel gap)

There are 16 levels of damping...8 towards the stiffer side and another 8 towards the softer side...

But I dont know how to adjust them!

The previous gen TL had it...anybody know anything about this?

Dont forget about the adjusting question too

Thanks!

SS-P is SS with pillowball mounts.

Read about it here --> http://www.tein.com/pumnt.html

As for damper adjustment, the knobs are located at the top of the struts. When you pop the hood, you will see the tops of the struts sticking out of the shock towers. You simply turn the knob left for stiff, right for soft.

For the rear, you will have to remove the seats, then reach underneath the rear dash cover.

I could do the 2G with my eyes closed, but not on the 3G. Never done it, although from what I've read, it's similar.

I don't want to give out wrong info, so hopefully someone else can chime in.

I've taken the back seat out and installed the SS. If you can install the SS, then you'll have that back seat out in 10mins. The tricky ones are the top 2. Make sure you don't lose the socket end when you pull it out of the first one . I can't remember exactly but I don't think there 22mm. I remember getting it in there and not being happy. I think there actually 10mm or 12mm.

Taking the rear seats out isn't that bad at all, I was able to do it in about 10 min last weekend, I've taken it out many times so I've learn a few things... In the diagram https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107568 on page 20-112 the "C" bolt located behind the seat, I find it easier if you have someone pull the "rear back seats" towards the front end of the car while someone elese in the trunk is loosening the bolt. You don't need to loosen it all the way, when you feel it's enough just lift the "seat back" straight up and it should come right now. Just do the reverse process when you put them back on.

Nandito,

Seriously do not be afraid to take out the back seat. The bottom bench has ONE bolt and two easy to pull on clips. The back of the seats has four bolts and it's off. Super easy to do compared to taking apart other parts of this car.

Let us know how the Tein SS feels once you've softened it. I'm looking to install them this summer but I want to make sure the ride isn't too hard first.

From what I remember there's 6 bolt and two clip... and the two hardest bolt to get to I've already mention. Those 4 other one are a breeze, don't be affraid to take it out.

They come from the factory at their hardest setting...

with that in mind...there not bad at all...but you will feel every bump out there! I can only imagine at there softest setting.....which is 16 "clicks" away!

better than stock? we'll see this weekend..

I'm afraid of leaving a knee, elbow or hand print at most on the leather

What levels (clicks) do you have your SS at?

if you set them to the softest setting will the car bottom out on bumps?

You guys are super helpful!

^I have no idea...But I do know that if you go past the last "click" when setting to softer or stiffer setup you will damage the damper permanently (stated in the instructions)

Spend just a little bit more money and get these add ons! Wont have to worry about "where to set em" then, can do it from inside then for the most part!

EDFC

for normal driving i can't really tell a difference between the softest and hardest settings.. if you're making tight turns on a track you would probably notice.. no worries about bottoming out.. depends on how low you make the car

Its hard to determine the hard and softest setting for me while driving on normal streets. But on the highway its night and day for me....i cruise on the softest on the highway for the most part and its really comfortable even with the 20's. But when i wanna push it alil i put it on the hardest. And i would agree to invest in the EDFC thats the greatest thing i did because even though taking out the backseat is easy its still a pain in the ass and for the front you have to take off the strut bar. But the EDFC is great and with little modification to get it to work.

I just got back from getting the Tein SS installed. Holy crap is my car bouncy!

I told him to set it at 6 in the front and 8 in the back. Im regretting not getting an EDFC now. I dont like the feel of a bumpy car 24/7. Im going to have to set it to the softest when I get a chance again and HOPING it makes a difference.

Seems like due to the backseat issue...the EDFC unit is almost like Navi...those that get it...love it...and those that dont...regret it! Diff is...not as hard to add EDFC controller...as long as you are using an acceptable Tein unit.

Im sorry, but I can tell a huge difference from stiff to soft. I just took off my front bar to adjust from 6 to 15 and what a difference. Now, the problem is that it feels too soft and rides like a boat (not really that bad, but just an analogy). Im going to readjust it 3 knotches down adn I think it will be perfect for daily driving. Driving over 100mph would be safer if I set it this way (not all soft).
