Acura TL suspension setup

Hi guys, last year around November i bought a 3rd gen TL. The guy who had it before put lowering springs on it and I don't really like the setup that much, I feel like the car is a bit too low on the back. Well recently I noticed that the back end is starting to wobble from side to side a little bit so I'm guessing the shocks are starting to go out. Also I heard the KYB GR-2 struts are a good setup for the stock springs. At first I just wanted to buy coilovers but they're out of my price range, unless someone knows a pretty ok brand that aren't too expensive. But in this case would it be a good idea just to put coilovers on the rear? After I bought the car I replaced the rear tires but they only lasted me about 6-7 months of normal driving, the camber ate those tires and I just replaced the tires recently and I can't have the same thing happen again.

What I was wondering is if someone knows where to find some stock/oem or similar ride height springs to replace the ones on the rear? Thanks guys

The OEM shocks are the best for comfort, I bought a used set from the black market section with 20K on it for around $150 for all 4. You can buy them new but it'll be upwards of $300.

Koni Yellows are supposed to be great shocks that last a long time. Someone told me that the KYB's don't last over 50K miles, no clue to the truth to it.

The camber in the back is from the shocks, you'll need to replace them as soon as possible.

Look Into the Tein Street Advance, they were on sale for $575 a little bit ago.

ALso the A-Spec suspension which is 3/4 in lower than the factory suspension (and firmer) is around $600 on ebay.

Thank you for the reply, I really don't know a hole lot about suspension,I drive a lot, the TL is a daily (about 100 miles a day) and I wanna know if the Tein Street Advance coil-overs performance would be just as good as the A-Spec suspension. With either setup I was gonna go with the Koni Yellows, but it would be nice to drop the car during the summer and raise it during the winter. I heard good reviews about the A-Spec so I just wanna know if the Tein Street Advance is gonna be similar performance. I also noticed the Ground Control Coil-over kit but I'm not really sure, I read another post about having to weld the shock or something like that and I don't want to get into that mess.

I used to DD the TL about 200 miles a day a few years ago and the factory shocks lasted me until 150K before they really started giving up. That's why I decided to go OEM again, in the event that the TL became the DD again it's last a long time. Now I get to play the rotation game and spread the mileage evenly across the fleet.

The A-specs are firmer so I'm not sure if you'd like the ride. The A-spec is the whole kit that you bolt up just like a coil-over. I'm not sure if the Tein SA would last 150K like the OEM stuff, but I'm sure it'd last at least 50K miles.

With the SA, you get that adjustability so you can raise and lower the car. With the Koni's, that would require new springs and moving the perch on the shock down to keep the ride good. With the A-Spec, its not adjustable so you drop the 3/4 inch and that's it.

I'd say the Tein's are better than the A-Spec, but they won't last as long. I'm not sure if Tein offers rebuilding services, but with the suspension being around $600 for the whole kit, it might just be cheaper to buy a new on in the future than rebuild the old set.

The KYB GR-2's won't last long when paired with lowering springs. We have the Street Basis available for only $531 not including shipping. These are a quality set of coilovers that will ride comfortable and have some height adjustment.
TEIN Dampers - Street Basis - Excelerate Performance - Japanese and European Performance Specialists!!

I would highly recommend these as an alternative to a spring and shock combination.

Thank you for all the help man, at this point I'm almost 100% im going to go with the TEIN Dampers - Street Basis (GSA80-1USS2). I can get them for about $515 shipped. Just one more question, since I'm upgrading the suspension do I need to upgrade any control arms or anything? I read up and some guy said something about replacing control arms after he had bought his coilovers (different brand I believe it was) but I didn't really understand and will I need to get a camber kit? I just plan on closing the wheel gap, thats all.

Thank you for the reply but it seems that I will be going through a different website due to the price.

Make sure wherever you get them does not have a ton of BBB complaints. It's real easy to post low prices, but not real easy to do good work all the time.

That said, the vendors here who are consistently helpful, even before we earn your money, are usually willing to entertain price matches and such.

On the camber kit question, check out this article we wrote. It is stickied:
