Is Acura for real? Rusted rear cam bolts!

I just had an interesting phone conversation with the Service Manager at the Acura dealer where my car is. I took it in for a front end clunk, driver mirror glass bleeding, and frozen rear cam bolts (according to the last alignment shop I went to). He said at one point the front struts were off ( probably due to the Eibachs being put on then taken off a year later but he didn't know the car had been lowered) and were exerting force on the strut forks, but not where it was supposed to be). So they are replacing the struts under Acura Care warranty. The driver mirror bleeding is NOT covered under Acura warranty because it is a "wear" issue. To the tune of $73 to replace the glass. I think BS. Now for the real kicker. The rear suspension cam bolts are frozen, they have to heat them up to replace them, then do an alignment. That costs $662! They said those are not covered under warranty because they are rusted, and they don't cover rusted parts. I think a call into Acura Customer Service is coming very soon!

$662 to heat up and remove/replace bolts sounds insanely high...if I were you I wouldnt have them do it....bring it elsewhere and get it done.

What is mirror bleeding? Is that where the anti-glare stuff in the mirror comes out or something?

The mirror looked like it had mud on the glass, but upon cleaning, the backside of the mirror is "bleeding". Looks like an antique mirror does. Essentially the mirror plating on the back side is coming off. I would show a pic, but the car is at the dealership.

No stupid questions here. I never adjusted the rear of the Acura, but on others, there are control arms on each side of the car that are attached to the frame with cam bolts (eccentric). As you turn the cam bolts, it will adjust the toe as needed for the alignment to be in spec.

Example, quick find on google S2000:

Wanted to add for the OP to use a penetrating fluid on the area, eg PB Blaster. Just keep spraying it on for 2 to 3 days as it may help loosen them up.

My mirror is doing that, too. I thought it was rust.

Acuratein had the same issue when they where putting in his rear camber kit, they cut them off with a saws-all. (his were rusted into the control arm ific) All you need is some new bolts, and then cut them bitches out. If they torch them, isn't that going to destroy the rubber inserts in the control arm????

My take is if air gets into the heating oil, it will turn a black color and that then is seen in the discoloration of the mirror. I thought if just the mirror glass were removed and replaced, then there would be no heating as the oil would not be retained. I thought the entire mirror needed to be replaced. I've even seen some cut a mirror the same size and use an adhesive to attach it to the existing mirror glass. Cheap fix.

Dude for the mirror just buy the glass and pop it in yourself, I had the same issue I paid like $15-20 bucks for the glass piece and the dealer wanted to charge $50 to install it I was like umm no. That was the day I made friends with one of the service techs. He actually came out to my car and helped me and showed me how easy it was to just pop it out.

As for the $662 for rusted cam bolts....HELL NO do not pay that shit lol

I am notgetting the cam bolts done-I think that is an outrage. Gonna try Customer service first, then have a tech friend do it.

the mirror bleeding is actually pretty common. I had it on my car and acura too said they werent goin to replace it cus it wasnt covered. HOWEVER, my mirror started clicking and stopped moving all together and i needed a new mechanism. hence i told them to replace the glass too while they were at it and with a simple call to the warrantly folks and acura finally honored it.

as far as the cam bolts....frozen bolts defintely suck! i attempted to install my rear camber kit and it was no dice as i had the same problem as you. I had taken it to a local shop where a buddy of mine works and he cut the old arms out and just got new bolts from acura and that was about it. he cut and removed the old cam bars, installed my new camber kit with new bolts and replaced a front bushing for $200. time wise, it was a PITA he said however, he got em out for me. if you have the tools and time, cut them out yourself and save the money..$662 is outrageous....my $.02
