5mm H&R spacers

Hey gang

I did ask this question in a thread but I wanted a few more of you to comment.

I am looking to install 5mm H&R hubcentric spacers on the front wheels of my 08 base TL. My question is....can those spacers be installed on the original studs or will I need to pay the added labor to install the supplied longer studs?

One of the speedshop guys said the 5mm spacers should fit straight on and so did our forumer Italiano on one of the threads.

Any more opinions on this?

Thank you in advance.

How about...

Take off your wheel. Put on spacer. Replace wheel. Profit.

I don't understand why you're having this dilemma. How hard is it to take your wheel off?

That would be a great idea Otacon except I haven't bought the spacers yet and once bought H&R offers NO refunds. I'm just pondering before needing to spend money not just on the spacer but also on the 1.5 hours labour involved to remove components off the front brakes.

I have a huge install to do with several components including shocks and springs. I am not a mechanic to be able do disassemble/reassemble a braking system.

Well, think about it this way- when u have 5mm spacer the studs become 5mm shorter. Now, 5mm spacer is not that much but to be safe- change the studs as well. I changed the studs myself- not that bad of a deal. Hope it works well.

Thanks tihomirbg

I would like to save the money on install but definitely NOT at the expense of safety. It seems that putting the H&R studs the safer and practical choice.

5 mm spacer is about the max on the OE studs, but to satisfy your concern, get a couple of washers 5mm in thickness, or a few that will get you to 5mm, place them over 2 studs then install the OE wheel to see the thread depth into the lug nuts.

Turbonut I will try that.

Steven, I already bought the 20mm ones for the rear as you suggested. Those are going on for sure. I just want a staggered look. With the 20mm rears, what do you suggest for the front....10mm maybe?

Thanks

OK FWIW

The 5mm spacers provide only 3 turns on the lug. H&R requires a minimum of 6.5 turns so H&R lugs go on.

If you get the hub centric spacers, they come with new posts. Plus, they fit on top of your OEM's.

I have 5mm on the front of my car, and you are right, you cannot get 6 turns. It's about half that. I wonder if you can even get 6 with the factory setup? And I think 1 turn = 1 full revolution, although they didn't say in the instructions.

But regarding what steve said, I have never seen a 5mm spacer with studs/posts. I don't think you can even do that because the factory studs would hit the back of the wheel. I know the factory wheels have a cutout but I think it would only work with 15mm minimum. Maybe 10, but I doubt it.

But Steve is right about 5mm is barely noticeable. I have 5's and 15's. I did have 20mm's but they stuck out too far in the back for my taste and 15mm was enough to reduce.. So there is some noticable difference if you go to an extreme like 20mm.. But 5mm alone is hard to tell. But, in a way, I didn't want to "tell" much. I just wanted it to appear slightly better but yet not be able to tell what it is... You know? subtile differences can make an entire car look better overall without really being able to spot out something that is obviously jiggified.

Hey Chad

Your reasoning for 5mm is exactly why I went with 5mm up front. I myself can tell the difference but it is not much. That's the idea for using small spacers. Just enough to see the difference and provide the staggered look for the rear. I'm happy.
