255/40/17 vs 245/45/17

OK, So I am in the market for some new tires and was wondering if there was anyone who has driven a TL with both a 255/40 and a 245/45. Curious what you would consider to be the pros and cons to both. I think that I am leaning towards the 245/45/17 at the moment.

I've got 245/45-17. They are fine. BUT there is a gain in sidewall height. Yes it closes the fender gap a little, but it is about 1/4" over-size (iirc). At first it looks awkward, but you get used to it.

Given the circumstances (I saved a LOT of $$$ going 245/45 vs 255/40), I'd have to do the same thing again.

If everything were equal (same tire at a similar price for both sizes), I'd go 255/40.

Thanks for the feedback. I am looking at getting some Goodyear Eagle GT's as I need an all season and they are reasonably priced so that is not really a big factor in the decision($117 for 245, $124 for 255).

I haven't done both but I can say I will always run the 255s. There are no downsides whatsoever but the car stops and turns better. Looks better too. Once you get used to the way yours looks with the 255s, when you see TLs driving around with stock size tires, they look funny.

A word of advice though, make sure when you're shopping around you look at tread width. It's possible to get a 255 that's narrower than a 245 but on the flip side you can get one that's nice and wide too.
