245/45-17 Summer Tire Closeouts

As usual, playing around over on the Tire Rack site and noticed the following:

Yokohama AVS ES100 245/45-17 Regular $131 Special $69

BFG T/A KDW Regular $132 special $88

Not a bad deal if you can use/want Summer tires.

I would expect 20k miles to 30k miles from summer tires used in daily commute driving, but much less if the car is driven a couple of times in autocrosses or on a track.

Just think, for the $69 price you could buy to sets and get 50,000 miles. They are a 280 rated tire and the BFG is 300.
On this Forum I am amazed at the early tire wear out problems. Guess we have a great amount of aggressive driver's. I have the Yoko S.4 with 23,000 miles and they are like new. At 38,000 miles, I’m on my 3rd set on the rear of our RX7 Turbo, and we’re not hard on the car, but same fronts.

It was P.O. (who was a lady) 80% of the mileage street driven and me (somewhat aggressive but no track) 20%.

I looked up my records and it was 21,654 which imho is too little.

I have RE960s now and hope to get at least 30k out of them.

Must have noticed a considerable difference in ride and handling going from a summer tire with a 9" tread width to a 225/45-17 960 that only has a 7.5" tread. That 1.5" difference on each tire is considerable considering that equates to 6" less tread on the ground.

There was a big difference, but I doubt it was due to initial tread size. I bought the car with 20% left on the tires.

The Yokos were 225 50 17s the Potenzas are 225 45 17, the car feels much more planted now.
