18x8.5 vs 18x9 F14's

Running 235/40-18's. I doubt there will be any difference in concavity, but I still can't decide. No stretch vs mild stretch. Help.

When in doubt go wider.

I'm running 235s on a 8.5" wide wheel and it looks great. Not bulky but not stretched either.

I know CL, and your 8.5 A-Specs with 235's are swaying me that way! It's a good match size wise.

What do you think about 18x8.5 +33 front and +29 rear? I know it'll be close in the rear, but I don't think I'll rub.

Weight wise, they'll be within an ounce or two of each other due to the lower offsets on the 8.5 to achieve the same look, and looking at pics, I don't see any difference in concavity.

Front you'll have plenty of room. I'm at +30 up front and don't rub with a 235 or a 245.

The rear will be close. Your wheels will me 1/2" wider but 4mm more sunk in because of the offset. I would at least roll the fenders.

You have the camber kit in the rear, right? Are you close to 0 camber or no? I'm at -1.5/-2.0 on the rear, so I think I can wing it. If I'm gonna roll, I might as well go more aggressive!

Yep I've got a camber kit. Only running a degree in the rear.

FWIW - I too have the 8.5 A-Specs and am running 255/40 R18 and have no mods and more importantly no rubbing issues.

From the factory, the 18x8.5 A-Spec wheels were paired with 235/40VR18 Yokohama AVS ES100 tires.

I've run 245s in the past with no problems but since I did my suspension I went back down to 235s.

You're talking about the Forgestar F14s right?

From what I noticed with these wheels, offset is the next biggest factor (other than diameter) affecting the weight of the wheel. The majority of the weight on my F14 wheels is at the center hub, I don't believe the spokes and the rim of the wheel weigh very much compared to the center. This is good because it provides a lower moment of inertia.

However, I was misled when purchasing my F14 wheels. I have a set in 18x9 +29 and they came out to be ~22lbs each wheel. Forgestar claims an 18x9 +48 weighs ~18lbs. The only difference between these two wheels is the offset. If you track your car often, I would suggest that you get the wheels in a higher offset.

If you're interested in the F14 wheels because they look good and you're trying to achieve a flush look, get the 9" wide wheels because it'll stick out more than an 8.5" wheel in the same offset. It may be harder to tell, but a wider wheel will almost always be more concave than a narrower wheel in the same offset.

I'm putting my set of F14s up for sale on the black market because i'm looking for a sub 18lb wheel. They're beautiful wheels!!! I actually think i'm going to get them in 8.5 and high offset for the light weight though

The link to my FS thread is in my sig, let me know if you're interested!

also, I prefer the LOOK of a 18x9 wheel with 235/40 tires over a 18x8.5 wheel with the same spec tires ALL DAY haha. That's if you like the look though

Understood, but I bought my wheels in the BM here and they had the 255 on them. It's a wider contact patch and this is what I know. I have not seen 235s on them so I have nothing to compare to. The 255s don't look bulky or stretched to me either.

I agree. The weight between an 18x8.5 and 18x9 is only around a half pound in the same offset. When you think about it, especially on a flow formed wheel, that extra half inch strip of aluminum around the circumference is miniscule at best. But also, Forgestar changed their load rating at some point and now their wheels are rated at 1500 lb instead of the old 1200 rating; the weights went up, yet they never divulged this. From my research, I'm estimating they gained a couple pounds in the 18" sizes. Check out the weights of the 1200 rated wheels in this thread on the Benz forum:

http://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w2...-2010-c63.html

And your wheels are sweet, but a little too aggressive for me, and Throwdown is making me a pretty awesome deal on a set! GL on the sale.
