18x8.5 Aspec Tire

Hello acurazine quick question what is the best tire size for 18x8.5 aspec wheels? my car is lowered on H&R race spring and I dont want to rub them.
And will 225 40 18 be ok?

235/40VR18 Yokohama AVS ES100 tires are what it came with from the factory. Those are the best size tires for this wheel. I recommend you stick to the same size for speedometer accuracy.

I've had both 235 and 245 on my 8.5" wide A-Specs and I prefer the 235s. I wouldn't go any narrower than that since you're just on springs and not dumped on coils.

What's the reason you prefer 235s? I've had 265/35s on mine, which I prefer, but ate middle of tires.

Thats cuz they were too wide for the rims and were crowning the center ... prolly had too much air in them too which added to it .

Well..I knew they were too wide, but they were the right height! And they looked pretty. Ran 38/35 f/r which I thought was reasonable. It was just the outter 1 inch which still had tread when rest of tire was a slick....

265 on a 8.5" wheel is overkill

I'm currently up on the wall about this.....why 235 over 245?

It's very hard to tell but you can see the difference in person. I've never been a big fan of the beefy tire look but I'm not a huge fan of the stretched tire look. The 235s just look like they belong there

I would also stick to stock sizes;although I've heard good things about running 245s?

Also;your A-Specs probably won't rub unless you're Dumped or running spacers, wider tires etc.

I rad 235 nitto invos on my 8.5 aspecs and it looked like the rim wasn't vey well protected. I'd run a 245 for better protection, can't be too careful

Im running 245 on my 8" aspec now but if I had the 8.5", I might try putting a 255 tire on.

Exclamation

I'm running General Exclaim 245/40-18 currently on my 8.5s and they look rather narrow to me. Not sure if they're a little narrower than usual, but I think 235s would look geeky!

Depends on the manufacturer but I know company A's 235 will look and be wider then company B's 245 tire.

To me thats backwards... one of the problems with the TL in the snow is the wide tire .. I'd do 235 in the winter and if you want wider then 245 in the spring.

Mine didn't have the 8.5 " wheel so I ran 225 in the winter so it didn't tobaggan as easily ...

Thanks! I had it done at a shop here in the Raleigh area. They usually do full wraps for vans and trailers but I had them just do my roof. 3M exterior use vinyl with install for around $300. Not cheap but it's not permanent either.

I think you just made up my mind for my new wheels. Couldn't decide between 18x8.5 w/235's or 18x9 w/245's. I don't want the extra bulk and weight of the latter setup, (although the added braking and traction would be nice) but you're right about 235 being perfect on an 8.5" rim; nice square setup. No stretch and no bulge to take away from the look of the wheel.

What spacers are you running and are you on a-spec suspension?

NM on the suspension, just saw Tein in your sig!

Glad I could help! Here are my specs:

18x8.5
+45 stock offset
15mm spacers front = +30 final offset
20mm spacers rear = +25 final offset
235/40/18

I'm on TEIN S-Tech springs on stock shocks. Probably not the best idea but I got them for a killer price and I've had no problems for 2 years.

Are you rolled? And what brand of tire?

I was thinking 18x8.5 F14's in 33/F and 28/R with 235/40/18 Sumitomo HTZ III. I'm on H&R Sports and don't want to roll!

Tires are Kuhmo Ecsta Platinum. Good all-season tire but pretty noisy. I'll be getting a different set next time around.

Rear fenders are rolled and by the specs that you posted, you will most likely have to roll. I don't rub with a 235 but I did with a 245. Your wheels will be 3mm more sunk in than mine but it's not worth the risk. Do it right the first time

Yeah, I'm just worried about paint issues and rust since I'm in upstate NY. Your set up is pretty damn flush though. Maybe I'll go 34/29, which would be 17.35/22.35 mm out from stock, basically right in between a 15/20 and 20/25 spacer setup on an 8" wheel. I do have around -1 front and -1.5/-2.0 rear camber.

Very clean and I love your aspec set up fitment with those spacer, when you ride those spacer 15mm front and 20mm rear did you found some wobble at high speed? or the ride is just the same as before? I imagine that you are running APR extended lug nuts correct?

Both sets of my spacers are Ichiba V2. The car rides just fine! My only complaint is that the nuts provided with the spacers are weak. When torquing them down, I had a few strip, and local stores don't carry them. I had to order more and they weren't cheap.

So you're saying you rubbed with 245's after you rolled, or before?

I rubbed with 245s AFTER I rolled. Having a +25 offset with that meaty of a tire made it happen. I don't rub at all with the 235s.

If you hit a curb, the 245's won't necessarily save you anyway...I ran a 235 this last go around and was very happy with how it looked.

My next set up is 225 on a 9"...got a great deal on the tire and I'm hoping to eliminate a little of that inner lip of the wheel the car likes to ride on. Plus, the guys at the tire shop were like, why the heck would you want the extra weight of a thicker tire.

Got 1 i can buy from you? I also have a stripped one.

I agree on 235>245.. <My 245's Falkens look huge for the 8" Aspecs.. Im on tein coilovers and the tires make the car look stock to me ( since i have 19's and just threw the 18's on so i can work

Unfortunately I had to replace just about ALL of the nuts that were provided with my spacers. That's the only thing I have against the Ichiba spacers. If you look around at reviews online, I'm not the only one that's had that issue.

I e-mailed Ichiba and told them what happened. They sent me 20 lug nuts for $35 shipped. Fucking rip off but no stores around here had anything like them.

To be honest, their customer service was terrible. I got short, snippy answers in every reply.
