106k on 05 Tl At strut replacement

My TL is getting some paint touch up, then going to the dealer for an oil leak and timing belt. They are telling me i should have changed the struts at 75k, so i am thinking of doing that as well......got a quote of $1200 from the dealer, then $1100 from a shop doing KYBs. Any downside to the KYBs?

Should i consider doing type s struts?

I felt the aspec rode too rough. I am a real estate agent and drive clients around quite a bit.

Any thoughts appreciated.

They're actually shocks, but regardless, are they actually bad? Is the car handling poorly? There's no recommended change at 75K, and many people are still on the originals well past your mileage. Sounds like they're trying to jack you. All four shocks retail for under $500, and they can be changed in a few hours. You can buy them online for $370 and have an independent garage install them for under $300.

Also on the KYB's, they can be had for around the same price as the wholesale oem's, so 1100 is too much. I paid $250 to have my shocks and springs changed.

I'd say stay away from that dealer as they should last well beyond 75k unless one self destructs, very unusual, and there is no service period recommended by Acura. Save your money unless they can prove there is a problem other than their money-making tactics.

Thanks guys! I had just read that when the shocks wear, it may not be noticeable to the driver. If the oems can be replaced for $600 or so, i may do it.....or do the fronts to see if i notice a ride improvevement.

If there is no apparent deterioration in ride quality, why replace them? Just throwing money away.
I've got a car with 200k miles, same suspension.
