06 Base TL suspension upgrade after RSB

Recently I got a new Progress RSB with stock suspension and stock FSB. I love it but expected WAY too much out of it. It is great for roll, even on soft, but it didn't transform the handling characteristics like say coils or struts would. I am looking into upgrading the actual suspension now because that would make the difference im looking for which is tighter and sportier (less floatiness, dive, etc) during regular and 'spirited' driving. I found a part out type s with 96k miles near me and they are selling all four struts and shocks for $200. Is this a good deal and will this upgrade complement the RSB and make the car a more balanced sport feel? All I know from reading many threads is type s setup is same ride hight but a bit stiffer. Or should I leave it as is. Lowering springs are disgusting and coils may be a bit too expensive at the moment. I also would prefer to stay same ride height to maybe 1 in drop. Thanks

it's all dependent on your budget. right now; it seems like the type-s part out combo is right in your budget.
I say the springs are worth about $200...but the shocks may be old and may need replacing...
if you could buy the part out combo for $200 or less, it would be a good deal!

and for $200 for a used spring/shock combo...dont expect major changes either...i mean it's still a stock oem part.
you might as well save up your money to get coils.

I'll respond from a different perspective, depending upon the number of miles on the car, I'd grab the shock assemblies in a heart beat. In fact, I'd go a step further if I was in your shoes and grab the Front Stabilizer Bar, the Steering Rack, and the Power Steering Pump.

FWIW, from a suspension perspective, I have the car in between yours and the Type-S in that I have a 2006 "Sport" model with the 6MT. Comparing the ride characteristics between another 2006 with the Automatic transmission, I could not believe the difference in the ride and handling; the auto almost felt like I was driving a 1980s vintage Cadillac.

The Type S suspension with the Progress RSB is plenty stiff enough for me. I definitely noticed a difference in body roll after installing the RSB. I like the ride in my Type S just fine now.

Exactly! It feels too "loose" and tight is best. My car has 135k right now. About the power steering pump and rack what do these benefit?

My understanding is there were three (and maybe even four) pump/rack combinations for the 3G TL (someone please correct me if I got this incorrect):
  1. 2004-2006 TL Automatic (highly assisted, lowest amount of steering feel of the group)
  2. (or maybe this should be 1.a) 2007-2008 TL Base Automatic (I may have heard this vintage had a slightly less assisted version, but I don't remember for sure)
  3. 2004-2006 TL 6MT (suspension and steering were notably stiffer compared to the above Automatic cars)
  4. 2007-2008 TL Type-S, Automatic and 6MT (this vintage had the stiffest suspension and the lowest boost on the steering)

Note, when comparing part numbers, all of the suspension and steering of the 2004-2006 6MT models are different compared to the Automatic models, however, about half of the part numbers are common between the 2004-2006 6MT and the 2007-2008 Type-S models.
