'04 TL -- ride too firm?
I recently purchased a pre-owned 2004 TL 6-speed with 42k miles on it. Here's my question. The ride/suspension feels really firm to me, almost too firm. On city streets I feel EVERY bump. On the highway, where it is smoother, no problems.
The tires that came with the TL are Continental ContiExtremeContact which is a "ultra high performance all-season tire." They run for about $96/tire on Tirerack. These tires don't really impress me. However the tread is in good shape and they don't need immediate replacement.
Is this firm ride a result of the tires or a suspension issue? I am not hearing and squeeking or anything of that nature from the shocks, etc. Anyone have any thoughts...
I was previously driving a BMW 3-series for 9 years.

Can't comment on your tires, but I've got a '04TL 6MT. It came stock with RE-030 tires, but I replaced them with Michelin Pilot Sport PS-2's. Those tires are awesome and seem to be a perfect match for the suspension on the TL. They're expensive but worth it.

When you opted for the 6MT, you got a firmer suspension than the AT version.
You also went from RWD to FWD, so the ride is bound to feel different to you. Maybe not firmer, but different. I doubt that the problem is your tires. Maybe you just bought the wrong car for you. Should have test drove it first (or longer).
I'm sure someone on the forum will take it off your hands if you decide to sell it.

I had pilot sports on a maxima (17 inch) and these will not help the ride, you will need a touring/all season tire if you think the ride is too harsh. Also, the bmw probably had smaller tire size, that will affect ride as well.

After reading so much negative about the MXM's, I had the dealer change them out to the Pilot Sport A/S's before taking delivery on my '07 TL-S. I had them on my '05 TL 6MT, and looked to go at least 60,000 miles. I've got 12K on my '07 TL-S now, and have no complaints as to ride, wear, noise, etc. But again, I don't think the tires are the OP's problem.

Needs wheels
Although the 6MT has a stiffer suspension than the auto, I think it is a matter of perspective as to whether or not the suspension is too stiff...my previous car was a 92 Prelude, the TL is like riding on a cloud by comparison!
