windshield issues!

First , hello to all , just traded my RSX in for a '04 TL - noob to acurazine. The windshield on the car has some mild wiper scratches. I was planning on replacing until I found out the replacement cost: $700 + installed! Does anyone have any ideas about this? Are the windshields for the '05 or the '06 a totally different fit? It's one of highest priced windshields I've ever heard of. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, the windshields are expensive. There are a few members who have found some non-oem glass. I wasn't able to find any in my area so I wound up paying about 600 (or something around there). I've seen others quote 300-400.

Welcome to Acurazine!
Yes, the TL's multi-layer acoustic glass is more expensive than conventional glass. You might want to see if the glass shop can polish out the scratches so you don't need to replace the windshield.
Otherwise, I think several threads here (on rock/debris damage to windshields) mentioned that the new windshield has to be bonded in with adhesive rather that just popped in with a gasket.

Your insurance doesn't cover glass?

I was wondering about that. Because it's a comprehensive insurance claim they can't raise my rates , right? Since I just got car I was concerned about hitting up my insurance co. within 2 weeks of getting the car.

I looked into polishing the scratches out, but apparently there's a chance of getting distorions in the glass.
Thanks for the feedback

Some states won't allow any sanding if the chip/scratch is in the line of sight of the driver. Its a lame ass law but the places I tried to get to fix my chip wouldn't budge.

Check with your agent on a possible rate increase.
Arizona (maybe it's a law?) doesn't raise your rates for glass, and the deductible is $0.
Good Luck.

Wow, am I glad for this forum. Here I was sitting here the whole time thinking that my regular comprehensive deductable applied to my glass coverage as well. Then I just now read your post - which was very surprising to me. So I dug up my insurance policy paperwork and found this gem:

"If coverage for full safety glass coveage is indicated on the Policy Declarations, the deductible amount will not be subtracted from any comprehensive loss to: 1. glass used in the windshield, doors and windows, and 2. glass, plastic, or other material used in the lights of the auto."

Thank you sandynmike!!!
