White showing through holes in leather seats

I hesitated to post since I don't have pictures, but I'm hoping this is a common problem so you know what I'm talking about. I did a search and can't find anything on this problem.

My drivers seat is okay. However, the passenger seat, where someone sits less than 5% of the time, has white patches showing through the holes in the leather.

One patch is about 5"x5". The other patches are smaller but noticeable. It appears as if the white padding below is showing through but it's not like stuffing is coming out.

I'm taking the car in for service on Monday. I asked the service guy if he knew what I was talking about and he said "I think I can picture it"

He says they will need to take pictures and send them to Acura to have someone else determine if this problem is covered by warranty.

Also I can't figure out why this is only happening to the passengers side. This suggests to me it's a defect and so should be covered by warranty.

Has anyone else heard of this problem and what are the chances that Acura will consider this a warranty matter and "fix" the problem? Thanks for any help.

My driver seat started doing this too, I have random white spots on the seats. I took a black fine tip sharpie to it and it looks great now. Seats are going to get old. Yours sound like it was worse than mine, so maybe taking it in is an option. If you give up, the black sharpie looks great.

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to say that the interior is black and so the white underneath is more noticeable.

This started to occur with-in a few months of purchasing the 05 TL last February. The car only has about $14,000 miles on it.

I'm surprised more owners haven't noticed this problem. As I suggested it's probably less noticeable with other seat colors.

If you look at the seat from a short distance and at a low angle, the white showing through the holes is more noticeable.

Yaa, I have black leather and a few white spots. It was one of the things I noticed when I bought the car used. After reading your post I decided to take the sharpie to mine, it looks so much better. The holes are now darker than the other ones, but much better than the white holes in random places..

Unfortunately, I don't have photos.

Just picture the holes in the seat. On my passenger seat, patches of the holes are clogged with white matter. The largest area is approx 5"x5". I think it's padding that's worked it's way up into the holes. The padding doesn't come out of the hole but can be pushed back down.

There are also individual holes that are clogged and smaller patches.

I can take a safety pin and push it in the hole about 1/4". The white (padding?) will disappear and the hole will no longer be clogged.

It would take an hour or more to do this to all the clogged holes, but I think the problem would re-occur and I want the dealer to explain why this is happening on the passenger side, which is almost never used, but not on the driver's side.

This must be a defect.

I thought this might be a more common problem than it appears to be.

I took the TL back to the dealer last week. They fixed the problem I had with the battery draining because of the faulty handsfree system.

I also continued to complain about the odd wear with-in the holes in the passenger and driver's seat. They told me to bring it back Monday (July3rd).

They apparently have a seat repair guy that they contract with. I dropped the car off. I got a loaner. 3 hours later they called me. I picked up the car and the seats were like new. There was a strong chemical (glue?) smell that has now gone away...but the problem is fixed, for now. No charge.
