If they're deep enough that you can catch your finger nail on them, an hone won't clean that up; will need to be bored.
The scratches do look deeper in your 1st picture than your 2nd.
Why'd you pull the heads? Doing a head gasket? Were you burning oil previously?

So this is my spare motor, had low compression in these two pistons (the radiator side as a whole had low compression but these two were the worst). So I'm gonna be rebuilding it on the side and was wondering what to do with this portion if its save-able or not. So my nail doesnt exactly get caught in it persay, it kinda glides over its almost like a bump in a way so i figured it would maybe be fixed with honing but I'm not sure

Gotcha. If it's your spare that you're rebuilding anyways, I'm assuming you'll be pulling the rotating assembly out of it, so once the pistons aren't in there, give'r the ol' dingle-ball hone job and see if she clears up.

Aye sounds good to me, i figured this could be my motor to learn some things on and just use it as a project since i have a running motor in the to currently. So yeah I'll give that a try and see how it goes 🤞 thank you very much

Yeah i was most likely gonna go with the dnj set that p2r sells on their site, or something equal quality. I just know that p2r usually only has reliable products on their store page

Do yourself a favor and get the cyls professionally bored and honed for 89.5mm pistons. It's relatively inexpensive and you won't have questionable cyl wear to worry about wiping out new pistons and rings.

The dnj set are oe style cast replacements that p2r sticks a label on. They're nothing special. I run them in a few motors that I rebuilt. You can get them cheaper off ebay. Search for DNJ P263.

is there any other oe style pistons by other brands? Just curious if there is or is the options really just dnj or a forged set. Also what would you recommend with rods? Could i safely reuse the old ones if there's not much sign of damage or heavy wear? Or should i just go with a new set?
As far as rods, if you are keeping the motor naturally aspirated, with no major power adders or higher rpm limit stock rods should be fine. I would recommend reviewing the factory service manual for things to look for.

I'm sure there are other cast j32a3 pistons. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that the j32a3 piston has a larger dome than older varients such as j32a1 and j32a2. This is likely the reason p2r markets the j32a3 piston as a high compression option. Thus, unless you are purposely wanting to run a different compression, you should look for a piston for 04-08 j32a3.
As far as rods, if you are keeping the motor naturally aspirated, with no major power adders or higher rpm limit stock rods should be fine. I would recommend reviewing the factory service manual for things to look for.
