What a bad day for me and my TL

First of all, a week ago I bought a White Diamond Pearl 2006 Acura TL w/ Navigation.

And today, I was coming back home after going shopping, I stopped at a gas station. I get out, and come back in. I try to start my car. Nothing. It won't start. My dashboard lights up, no warnings, everything normal. I turn the navigation on, radio, everything works. I turn on my headlights, turning signals, everything working fine. When I try to start the car, my navigation cuts off.

Great. I got an electrical problem.

I call a tow truck, waiting 30 minutes for him to arrive. He comes, checks the battery, battery is fine. He has no idea what is wrong with the car. Great. So he puts the car onto a flatbed, and off we go to an Acura Dealer on a Sunday. Dealer's gates are closed, so no way of putting the car on their lot, so we put the car into a parking lot across the street with cars that have no plates (Guessing it's the used lot).

So my TL gets unloaded. Rain starts to fall fast. I call a taxi, taxi says will take 10 minutes to get here, but takes 30 minutes. Awesome. I'm expecting a quick 30 minute drive to my house, he decides to take the highway, extending the 30 minute drive into an hour drive. Was my first time getting into a taxi, and will next time call someone to pick me up. Thought the guy was kidding when he told me the price.

I'm guessing its one of those recalls for the fuse box or the fuel pump. If that's the problem, thank god it didn't happen while I was on the road.

Here is a picture I took the day I bought it.

have you check to see if the connectors on the battery are clean and tight.

How did the guy check the battery? It's putting out volts to turn on your interior lights but maybe not enough to turn the car on. I would check to see if the battery is holding a full 12V.

Maybe the starter if the battery is still holds a 12V charge? Sorry to hear about this!

Make sure you mentioned to the dealer about the recalls and have them replace the units. They may tell you some crap and charge you.

Wow, based on your title, I expected to hear about how you got T-boned by some uninsured driver....

This isn't so bad. Hard to diagnose on-line, but my guess would be bad battery connection, bad starter solenoid, or bad starter.

The dealer will rape you if it's the starter. You can get a rebuilt starter for $80-$100 with an exchange and install it yourself if you want.

As far as the TSBs, it's likely that they've already been done. Your dealer can tell you or you can find out yourself online by registering at myacura.com.

Good luck.

Why would the dealer charge him if the vehicle was purchased one week ago?

Well, it's a used car and he doesn't say who he purchased from. If it 's Acura Certified, then he should be OK...

Turns out, it is the starter. And yeah, dealer raped me. They want $700 for starter, labor and diagnostic test.

I didn't buy the car at Acura. Going to call the dealer I bought it from and ask them if they can do anything.

Thanks. I'm glad I waited and got a WDP TL. Especially I was lucky that this one already had the a-spec kit on.

I'm convinced that when you purchase a used car, you will face most of the challenges within the first 3 months.
The TL is finnicky...but well worth it. At least your TL is absolutely gorgeous and already had the Aspec kit on it.
Keep us posted on what the problem is please!

Sorry to hear about your car! I've had some bad run ins with mine here lately. Seems like its the bad karma car! I backed out of the garage and hit my husbands truck and had to have the rear bumper repainted. Had it back and month and the paint started chipping. So, took it back to have it painted again. Had it back a week and a lady t-boned me. $7k worth of damage. Pretty much the entire passenger side replaced. Since I have had it back, the side marker on the driver side has quit working and my a/c has been acting crazy. Here's a pic of the damage from the wreck. I cried for days over this.

Funny, I bought a WDP '06 TL with A-Spec kit on 11/11, just over a week ago. 6MT? Twins! Good luck with the repair... I bought mine Acura Certified.

It's an automatic.

In the end, I paid the dealer to fix the car. So happy that I'm finally driving it again.

jesus, $700 for a starter. I cant believe they get away with prices like that its unethical. As soon as I bought mine the problems started too, first the battery crapped out, the passenger side window wouldnt go up, the tranny overheated on the highway, my trunk release button stopped working, I got hit in my parking lot... Oh well ive fixed most of it myself and Im doing my 105K service tomorrow. I might call the Acura dealer just to see what they would charge for the 105K service so I can laugh at them. I hate dealerships so much even though I used to work for one, hell thats probably the reason I hate them so much- I know how they work and how bad they rip people off
