Type of Transmission fluid

I am getting ready to replace the transmission fluid again and I have always used the fluid from the Acura dealer. My question is that the local part store has a synthetic fluid by valvoline that says it is for Acura vehicles. It also says it can be used in Nissans, Toyotas,... Can you use other brands of transmission fluid or is it recommended to only use an Acura made fluid? If it meets the OEM specs is it safe, better? With all the problems you read about with Acura transmissions I don't want to use the wrong stuff but if there is something better that is also cheaper I am in.
