The TL wouldn't start so I....

Well I took the starter out this weekend. Hardest part was of course that damn battery tray bolt that you have to feel out with your 9" extension (I'm seriously going to move the battery to the trunk after this). I tested the solenoid and there was good continuity between the contacts and armature so while it could still be an issue, I thought more than likely it's the armature itself giving me an issue. Especially since the solenoid was clicking and getting juice from the relay. So I decided to clean out the brushes and gunk out the carbon in the armature housing before trading it in. Reinstalled it and voila.. I started the car about 20 times and 4 of the times it hiccuped but started subsequently, no hammer / breaker bar necessary.
I was a bit surprised that the starters are cheap on the TL. I think Autozone has them as low as $120 after core exchange.. of course it's a plastic body though. On the X I paid $180 w/ core exchange and that was with a 20% off coupon at AAP. Sorry for the quasi-thread jack ggesq.. I'll start another thread with the starter tear down. Please don't ban me.

So I'm confused. You didn't trade it in and just reinstalled the old starter after cleaning it??? That's good news then!!
