Timing Belt Labor Cost
I was going to buy an OEM timing belt kit with all the belts, tensioner, water pump etc and have it installed... I called a couple of dealerships to get a price with them providing the parts and a price for installation only if I supplied everything. The cheapest price I got for installation only was $425 from a Honda Dealership, or $789 with them providing the parts. Another Honda Dealership was $799 with them supplying everything, but they wanted $525 to install everything if I supplied it. When I called Acura, they were like $1600 to do everything including valve adjustments, spark plugs etc...$994 if I provided the parts.
Does the $425 seem reasonable for labor charges? They were basing it off 6hrs. So total cost would end up being about $689 for me. What's everyone else paid for this? I called an independent shop and they wouldn't do just the install. They quoted $850 with after market parts. |
think about this, if a part fails, how likely will the installer diag/teardown at no cost. meaning you'll have to shell out diag time to verify failed components. if all you want is install then head over to the honda dealer. if you want a bit more assurance, do it yourself or have a friend do it for you.

$425 for labor at a Honda dealer IS NOT BAD at all!
Most dealers are getting $100+ an hour these days. The Acura dealers in my area quoted between $660-$1100 just for the labor of the timing belt and water pump alone. . . |
If your mechanically inclined do it yourself not that hard..But 425 is nota a bad price..Your using acura parts right? Or should i say Honda parts

yeah, I would be buying all OEM parts. Its just amazing how one honda place is $70hr, another is $87hr, and the Acura dealership is $112hr (and they charge 1/2 more labor time) If I had more free time, I would think about doing it, but I have a 3 1/2 yr old and a 4mth old that I am home with on the weekends, so time is something that I really don't have extra of right now. Seems like the Honda dealership that quoted $425 will be where I take it unless I get better pricing elsewhere. It's only about 1 mile away from my work and it will be done same day, so it is the most convenient option too...

can you name the Honda Dealer in MA - near Boston or the Cape?? We're getting that 1400 px from the dealer not even sure it included Water Pump. Low 1100 px on the Cape, 1500 from a local shop - est 10 hours labor (seems excessive) What does NADA book estimate as labor time??

Wow.. My acura dealer is doing it for $250 with my parts. Aisin timing kit.

Doing it as we speak. Dropped off at 7am. Starting at 7:30. They said it will be done at 3.

If memory serves, OEM Acura and Honda belts are Unitta belts made by the Nitta corporation and sold under the joint Gates-Unitta brand. However, the "best" kit is either the Aisin kit or the OEM Honda kit. |
i just bought all oem, i priced out difference between gates and oem, roughly 200 but 200 for something that i wont have to touch for another 90k is fine with me.
