Tighten fuel cap

i just made a trip from texas to kentucky, about 800 miles, and while sitting in traffic for 3 hours at a basic stand still my "tighten fuel cap" message came on. i got out and tightened it and it went away. it has come on 2 times since then which was about a day ago. could this be a more serious problem? anyone have the light malfunction?

This is a known issue. Could be the actual gas cap, fuel tube or (in my case) the purge control solenoid valve. About $80 shipped. Fixed my gas cap issue that I had every day for over a year. I found it cheaper than the link below but cannot remember where.

I had it happen to me one time. I really pushed it on a tank of gas after the fuel light came on and the "Tighten Fuel Cap" light came on. I refilled and tightened the cap. A day later the light was gone. That was about 2 months ago.

It's a known issue. I don't think Acura recognizes yet though.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, I was sitting in traffic for an hour then the tighten fuel cap came on. After the traffic cleared up and I was going about 75ish the message cleared. I haven't seen it since.

so basically its more of an irritation than a real issue. is it ok to just ignore it and clear the message when it happens or is this something serious?

Yes its more of an annoyance than a real issue. Fix is pretty cheap and easy though.

I've posted this in another thread but hope this will get more visibility.

Same story.
So I replaced purge control valve today and have a question.
Do I need to have check engine code reset or will it clear on its own?
Thanks.

I looked up other forums and it looks like all of them, TL, RL, RDX, TSX ..... have same problem. Shame on Acura. Called my local dealer to get an estimate on purge valve replacement and even chick at the front desk tells me same crap about three clicks.

Purge control

08 TL with this annoying "tighten fuel cap" warning that came out of no where , I checked my fuel cap's seal(was not torn) I still tried fixing the issue with a new fuel cap(didnt work) , The PCV (purge control valve) was defective, Bought it for 130$ at dealer and replaced it myself.

No you don't , Its a warning message that is set/logged in your dash ecu and After replacing your pcv your ecu and ecm will run a diagnostic check and then if it passes it will simply go off
