I have a 2008 Acura TL, bought it used when it had 30K miles. When I reverse my car, stop then shift it to drive, the moment it moves forward there is an thunk noise. But not all the time. I thought it was the VSA but its not. The dealer told me it was the brakes that move back and forth when i shift from R to D and said it was normal. But if its the brakes and normal, then it should happen all the time. Also, does anyone know if Acura TL 08 had a recall for transmission issue?

I meant a clunk noise more then a thunk!

 

My guess would be your motor mounts need replacing.

 

Thank you princelybug. I just found another thread "Transmission making a "clunk" noise" by Dre327, according to that it seems it is normal in Hondas. Any suggestions? I am planning on taking it in just to get it checked out.

 

No suggestions, really. Our motor mounts are known to go bad prematurely. I'd get them checked out.

 

Most typical thunks that occur when engaging park to drive is the pawl bar but your issue definitely sounds like it's the front motor mount.
