Switch for heated seats not lighting up
 

When I installed my Dice unit I messed around with the harnesses that plug into the switches for the heated seats. When I plugged them back in, the heated seat logo didn't light up when I turned on my headlights. It's weird because the amber LEDs still light up when I turn the heated seats on.

Does anyone know what I need to do? It's not a huge deal but it's annoying.

Figure out if the heated seat is actually working. If it working then all you lost is the illumination and you should' be warrantied. If you heated seat isn't even working then you gotta check your connections and fuses.

Always check fuses when something doesn't work first. I can save you alot of headache.

It should be warrantied? I'll check the fuse first before giving Acura a call. Do you know if the fuse for the seats is in the fusebox by the pedals or the one by the air filter?

same thing happened to me but i dont have warranty and i got this extended warranty crap which sucks...any other way to this?

that happened to me.. my switch didn't light up anymore (drivers side only) but the orange light still worked when it switched it over to high or low. Turned out to be the bulb needed to be replaced.

its probably the bulb ... bulbs don't seem to last too long in this car

any diy anywhere on this site about it?

I have the opposite problem.. Mine lights up, but the amber bulb only works intermittently... (if I tap the switch, it will work)... But the heated seat itself always work... Acura told me that bulbs are not covered under warranty.

+1, my driver side seat warmer logo is out as well as the select button next to my gauge cluster...

Do you have a DIY for the bulb and part number? :wish:

If you need I have an extra heated seat switch unit lying around. Just PM me. I was going to put some blue leds in them, but never wound up doing it bc it would have been too much blue in my car.

Same thing with mine - drivers side only lights up when it's turned on. Doesn't illuminate when headlights are on.

If it's only the bulb (heater works fine) does one have to replace the switch or can you just replace the bulb?

Any instructions on how to get to it without pulling the entire console apart?

bulbs not covered under warranty??? the bulbs next to my cluster went out and were replaced under warranty, check with your dealer again.

Is the bulb and switch just one part together? :/

Edit: How do you get the switch out once you pull out the harness? Does it release into the center console?

For those under warranty, just get it done at the dealer, its much easier IMO if you ask me and free. I'm not sure if the bulb replacement on the switch is something that is just screw off and replace or if it actually needs to be soldered in. I would think its soldering.

Your dealer was being nice... Mine wasn't. I even checked the warranty myself. It actually explicitly states that bulbs are not covered. Personally I think it's horse crap... Our TL is only 3 years old and has 40,000 miles on it... (I have the Acura extended warranty) My other car is 11 years old and has 155,000 miles on it, and none of the interior lights or button lights have burned out. (knocks on wood)

I could try to argue the switch is defective, since the light only intermittantly turns on, and tapping the switch fixes it, which implies the switch mechanism for the light is defective. (I saw the schematics in the service manual, the switch is actually a dual, one for the light and a separate one for the heated seat). And the warranty explicitly states that switches ARE covered under warranty.

I'm going to have to check the fuse tonight and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to call up Acura for an appointment :/

man there are so many interior lights out in my 04 u would think im driving around with the headlights off...(steering wheel controls, heated seat logos, one of the memory seat buttons, rear defrost, front defrost, passenger side heat controls, one of the homelink buttons.....lol o yea.... let me not forget the hazard light button) checked the fuses they're all good.... im about to take my car into the dealer to have it checked out because its just ridiculous.... its about the only thing i hate about the car.

does anyone have instructions on how to replace the bulb? do you have to remove the whole console? or can the switch be popped out?

According to the service manual, the whole center console has to come out. It looked to be a PITA. However, the dealer only quoted me $60 to replace the switch, so I"m thinking if the dealer does it, they won't be taking out the whole console the way the service manual says to? Cuz $60 (which includes the price of the switch) seems too cheap to include the labor to remove the entire center console?

Mine went out, and the dealer replaced for nothing. The steering wheel control lights have gone out also. They replaced the first set, but these things have gone out again. The controls work, but they just don't light up. It seems like these bulbs don't last very long.

it's maybe a 10 minute job to pull the switch out, all that has to be removed is the armrest. the metal trim just has to be lifted enough to get to the screws on each side, and then inside the armrest is another 2 screws. you then slide the armrest back a few inches, and pop the switch up from underneath.

Seat heater switch bulb replacement

Remove the two silver trim pieces that run the length of your center console (start where it meets the armrest.)

Open the armrest lid and at the bottom of the storage box, remove the rubber cover.

Remove the two screws

Remove the two screws holding the rear section of the console to the front

Pull the rear of the console back

You should be able to see the sides of the switches now. They may have a silver sticker covering the bulbs. Remove the sticker for access to the bulbs.

Use a flathead to turn the bulbs counterclockwise, use a pick to remove them.

Put the new bulbs in and turn them clockwise.

Put it all back together the same way it came apart

Do you have a part number for the bulbs or can I just pick one up from Walmart/etc?

the bulbs have a plastic base on them, I dont think they are something you could get at wal-mart

BTW, your dealer should do them under warranty if your under the 4 year 50K mark

Bulbs are a "wear item," so it's not surprising if a warranty claim is denied.

Yeah, that's what happened to me... It just sucks, because I don't think these bulbs should be burning out so fast. My other car is 10 years old, and has almost triple the miles that our TL does, and yet non if it's interior lights have burned out *knocks on wood*

And it's not like the heated seats are on every second the car is on.... I'm also pretty sure it's the switch that's busted not the light, cuz when my light doesn't work, if I tap the switch a few times, the light turns on... The dealer is aware of this, but they still say it's a wear item. (Even tho they admitted that the switch is covered under warranty, but says that since the heated seat itself still works, the switch is ok).

Perhaps I should show him the schematic from the service manual that shows that the switch is a double-pole single throw, and that one of the throws is busted, which is why the light only works intermittently... I think it's a lost cause tho....

I agree with this. The interior bulbs seem to be lacking in quality.

You only need to do steps 2 through 5. It's easy and only takes about 10 minutes max. Use a butter knife with a rag around it to pop the silver trim off. You don't need to remove the trim completely if you don't want to, just pop it up in the console area.

Then the switch bodies will be exposed underneath the middle console. You don't need to disconnect the harness or remove the switch. You'll see a 1"x2" piece of silver tape. Pull it off. You will see 3 bulbs:

left for low indication (35853-SDA-A01) '04-'07
middle for illumination (35852-SEP-A02) '04-'07
right for high indication (35853-SDA-A01) '04-'07

Using a flat head screw driver, turn the affected bulb base counter clockwise about 1/3-1/2 turn. You might need a set of tweezers or small needle nose pliers to get the bulb out.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/44063893@N03/6369776629/Here are some basic photos of the process. Did this last night. Takes about 15-20 min. When removing the silver trim on either side, I wrapped a butter knife in a blue shop towel. Worked perfectly. Just be gentle and take your time.

You also have to remove the two screws under the rubber mat in your arm rest compartment.

Pull and shimmy the center console towards the back seat.

Here is the switches. Just remove the silver tap and the bulbs are there. I think the bulb is only a few bucks at the Acura stealership.
