Strange decrease in gas mileage...?

I have a 2007 TL type-s 6speed. I use the trip computer to calculate my MPG average, and when i first got the car i averaged 26-27 mpg. I have not changed the way i drive, use 93 always, cruise control on highways etc.. and now i am getting 22 according to the computer. changes ive made since my good gas mileage, i put on 18 inch work emotion rims, staggered (215/35 in front 245/35 in back)... along with a cold air intake. My guess was that when i installed the CAI i did noty connect the "recirculation" hose, or whatever it is but appeared to be that. I since then bought a hose and reconnected it, no change in MPG. This isnt a HUGE deal, im just curious of why this drop could have happened. ANY THEORIES?

when you installed the CAI, did you relocate the air intake temperature sensor? If yes that can cause a drop in MPG since it gets moved to a place where it'll detect colder air and thus dump more fuel.

Also what tires did you get? A change in tires can have a HUGE impact on MPG. By going from Tire A to Tire B in my 760, I lost 2 MPG

Put the stock air box back on and see if it goes back up. Either way, you eliminate a variable.

You could do the same thing with the wheels if you have the stockies still.

I think an ECU reset wouldnt hurt if it's sensor related. I'm averaging 27 mpg for well over 2k miles. I have a 3.2L though.

You've got too many variables going on for any accurate answer via interwebs.

Could be so many things.

I would drive the car until the gas tank is empty, then refill. Ideally with non ethanol blend or use reputable gas station. Check mpg, then move onto swapping the OEM intake back on.

Either way, that's one hell of a mpg drop.

Like other have said, you changed a lot at once to easily tell which was the culprit. I bet all are at fault.

1.) Tires -- What kind of tires did you come from? Tires change our highway mileage drastically.
2.) CAI -- You probably like the sound it makes and tend to get on it more.
3.) Gas -- Winter blend may have started in your area.

did you reset the trip mpg by accident if so you will loose all the highway miles calculated mpg and start off fresh

I had BFG-G-force (not KDW), OMG the difference between this BFG and the OEM MXM4 is day and night (good and bad).

1) MPG decrease by 2 at least, especially local. Why? well obviously because it's stickier, but that's not the whole story, because it's stickier now (the car sense more resistance to movemen) the tranny won't shift to 5th @ around 40mph, i had to go up to at least 45mph for it to automatically shift to 5th. And my local speed limit is only 35mph, so 40mph is max i can drive without seeing a POPO.

2) This is the worst thing about G-force, the tire become very very loud after several thousand miles, seriously! When i swap it to Hankook's top of the line V12 several months ago, i almost forgot how quiet my car could be... I read online many other G-force user had same complaint, I know BFG is considerably cheaper than others, but seriously look at other choices a second time, may be consider the Hankook, it's pretty good for the price... May not be as good as continental conti or michelin ps2 but pretty up there.

By the way my car is 05 Auto, I remember read on a brochure that since 06 Acura tuned the way torque converter lockup, yielding more linear throttle response @ low rpm, who knows may be 06+ will automatically shift to 5th even using sticky tire.

I actually did a cost analysis, for some reason sticky tire is cheaper than those long lasting all-season (assuming you buy reputable brand), so basically it's cheaper to buy my Hankook, but i need to visit gas station more frequent. And the price difference after 25 to 30K is about the same (may be less than $100 difference. So i go for the sticky route.
