Strange Clunking Noise
I am experiencing a clunk or popping noise coming from the front right wheel well. I seem to only hear the noise if I accelerate and then let up. Also, I've only noticed this if I'm going 10-20 mph. As soon as I let off the accelerator I hear the clunk. Two days ago I replaced the front right lower control arm with a Moog RK series control arm. I also have the same one but for the left side that I have yet to replace. I also replaced the front right lower ball joint with a ball joint from O'Rileys because that's all that was available at the time. I believe it was from Import Direct. Not even 10 miles of driving and i would hear an occasional clunking so I jacked the car up when I got home and noticed the boot around the ball joint i just replaced was already torn. I figured that it was a cheap ball joint and that it may have been faulty to begin with because it was so stiff i could barely move it around to get it lined up with the control arm. I ended up buying an OEM lower ball joint my local Acura dealer and had a shop replace it while at work today. All was good until I heard a similar clunk to what I mentioned earlier while driving through my neighborhood. I looked up under the car on the passenger side and the ball joint isnt torn or anything and looks fine. I dont think the clunk I'm hearing now is the same clunk I was hearing before I had the OEM ball joint put in. It's a quieter and less harsh clunk. Also, when accelerating at above 60 mph the vehicle has a slight shake too... but only when accelerating. Once I let off the gas the shaking goes away. This shaking is new and was not there before the control arm and ball joint replacement. I've read some forums and I'm thinking that maybe my inner CV joint might be bad or maybe somehow while I was replacing the control arm and ball joint that it got messed up? Anyone have suggestions??
