Steering Wheel shaking a bit?

Unhappy Steering Wheel shaking a bit?

Good Afternoon Acura Members,


As we all know front wheel drive cars have a little steering wheel shaking. What have some of you done about it? I'm experiencing some major wheel shaking and the car also tended to steer toward the right. I have done 2 alignments to my vehicle! I feel that the "wheel alignment mechanic" I have been taken it too is not doing a great of a job. Does anyone know a great place in the Tri-state area to take it too? (Except the fucking dealer!) I don't want to find myself one day, holding nothing but the steering wheel in my hand, in a different location then in my car. lol .

Yeah, my vibration issue was solved with a balancing.

:shakehead Steering wheel shake only appears for the same reason on FWD as it does on RWD cars- something is wrong or off. In my case, with FWD cars for at least 20 years, steering wheel shake at certain speeds was always due to imbalanced tires, and vibration under braking = warped rotor.

Your problem sounds like a balance rather than an alignment issue. Get a tire shop or dealer to balance the tires with a Hunter "Road Force" balancer; the TLs are purportedly are sensitive to balancing, as are certain tires. The tech should be able to tell you if the problem is not the balance, but a bad tire or damaged rim.

Like the previous poster suggested get a hunter road force balancing done, and you're problem will be solved!! I can almost guarantee that. I'm actually going to get mine tommorow before I take my trip down to MIAMI this week. Mine has slight vibration too, which I've had in the past.. got it road force balanced and it was solved. That was over a year ago, so now I'm due again. Most rims in NYC are going to be slightly bent but the balancing should correct for that. This is how Acura balance our wheel. Use this link to find the shop nearest you that has this machine and get it done. Be sure to call around as pricing differs.

Let me know if you find a cheap hunter road force in the Tri-state area; I thought my problem would be solved when I got new tires, but it was not.

+1 for road force balancing. Discount Tire Co. has one of these... dunno if they're located in your area. Try their website. FYI, tires on passenger cars are considered 'bad' if they measure >=15 lbs of road force after they have been spun:

I had a really bad vibration in the steering wheel and it would shake so bad i coudn't drive over 30. But the nextday it was gone? I only happend 1 in the cold maybe something was frozen.

To all members who placed there suggestion, Thank You!. I'm hoping this corrects my issue. I will find out by the end of the week when time comes around my hands to take my car to a tire shop with a GSP. I will keep everyone updated on the matter.

this happens when the tires are cold and have flat-spots. Summer tires are more prone to this since they have softer compounds.

to the OP, get yourself a balancing done on a hunter road force machine. As well go to the place where you got the tires and ask them to check the tires to see if the belts are seperating, causing the vibration. As for pulling to the right, how much does it pull?

I did not know this... learned something here. So... technically should I wait to get down to FL to get mine done? Cuz I don't want to balance them shits now and then have to rebalance when I get to better climate? I am running Summer Tires. Suggestions?

I saw your comment about it pulling, i'd have them them check the belts in the tires once again. Also this may sound dumb, but on the sidewall of the tire is the work DIRECTION with an arrow. make sure it's pointing towards the front of the car (headlights and not the tail-lights)

When the tires are cold this happens, once they warm up (after about 7-8 miles for me of driving on the interstate at 80) it should be gone. If you want to get an balancing done, drive the car for a bit and make sure that the place is ready to do it right away. Pull the car in and have 2 guys balance the wheels, one takes off and the other balances, NASCAR style. This is so involved since the compounds can loose heat quickly and as well will conform so easily to the surface they are touching.

I hit a big pothole on the LIE and now I have some noticable vibration @ 50+ mph, time to have the front wheels balanced

Some nice people working there. They charged me 20 bucks a tire, though the balancing solved some of my issue (A very big percentage) I have to work on my rims. I got 3 rims bent, One of them is bent bad (front passenger), the rear 2 are not as bad. I'm hoping once i get new rims on, (balanced and a alignment) my issue will be resolved.
