steering wheel faded.. help

hi, i was cleaning my tl with lexol cleaning for the first time, and tried doing my steering wheel. wheen i looked at the towel i saw it was dark and that paint came off from it , (12 oclock ) now it look like a cheap car faded steering wheel
can i paint this section back with anything.
can i use a viny or cover (prefer a type s style carbon fiber) to cover the upper section.

i'm trying to avoid replacing the steering wheel cause the guide really seem like a very difficul process.

any link would help.

Have seen many vehicles have the steering wheel wear through in that location, but once the covering is compromised there is nothing much you can do short of replacement, or maybe consider a wheel covering as some are quite nice.

Not personally, but have seen some vehicles with:
http://www.wheelskins.com/
They look nice, but the stitching must be done perfectly.

no is not dead, dry dirty skin. is actually not a faded color is more like pilling. The glossy look at (12 oclock) from the steering wheel is coming off. you can tell by the look and by the feel of your hand that is a black rusty matter looking like an old leather coming apart.

i really hate buying a cover or wheelskin because it does not look natural oem. i'm going to pepboy and buy some SEM viny leather black paint, will prep the top part and repainted to see how it comes out. if that fails then i'll buy a new steering wheel since i won't have no other choice.

I have this same issue. I was just wondering last week how I could fix it. If anyone knows a way without having to replace the whole steering wheel I'd like to hear it. My shift knob did the same thing, but that's a much easier swap.
