SRS warning light
Hi Guys. I'm a newbie here and this is my 1st post.
I searched the forum and couldn't find anything real clear on this problem. I have a 2005 Acura TL with auto transmission. It has 56K miles on it.
My red SRS warning light sometimes stays on after the car is started. The owners manual said it warns of a problem in either the air bag system or the seat belt tensioner system. I called the Acura warranty department and they said the SRS system is only covered by the standard warranty. The only part covered longer are the seat belt's themselves.
The question's I have is does a OBD tool pick up a code from this warning? And also, is there some simple things to check before taking it to the dealer?
Thanks!

you can go to your local auto parts store like autozone and they'll scan it.. if your SRS light is on then it should read a code to pinpoint the exact error / where your problem is.
It could be an assortment of things from sensor / wire / relay / fuse.. You better get that car checked out.. it might have been patched from an accident.
edit: are you the original owner / just bought it?

A standard ODBII handheld diagnostics computer will not pick up this DTC code, as I have tried. Take it to the dealer.

check this thread where I have included my own experience with an SRS issue. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=720748

I know it's not a fortune but I'd call around to different independent Honda shops to get quotes on SRS diagnostic.. just say "hey.. my SRS indicator is on, how much to pull the code for me?"

If I wanted to buy a code reader that can read it, what would I buy?
Sounds like it's a "Honda specific" code reader?

Factory type scan tools are the best option. Mac, Matco, and Snap all sell scan tools that can read the SRS system, but you are looking it the $2800-$4500 range for the tool and software needed. Try going to the dealer and see if they will just scan the system for you in the driveway. A lot of dealerships are starting to offer free fault retrieval for customers. It helps to go when they are not busy

Sounds like they have quite a racket going replacing $20.00 sensors for 4 or 5 hundred dollars.
