Smokey, noxious odor from under hood

I just started getting this smokey noxious odor coming from under the hood. It's kind of weird in that it bellows out in short bursts upward from behind the engine. My 04 3G TL has 78,000 miles on it and the car runs perfectly otherwise. There've been no recent fixes done (other than cleaning and re-oiling the K&N filter) and all fluids are at proper levels. Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

when you did the k&n, was it just a light spray of oil? the little can is supposed to do 5 filters- its easy to way overdo it

I'm pretty sure I did a light oiling and in any event the smoke is cominig from behind the motor toward the other side from where the filter is.

Power steering hose gone bad (which is why the recall)??
Which can mean FIRE!!

The dealer should cover it if it's a PS hose issue.

Otherwise, is it oil from a loose oil cap?

Thanks Will. I guess I'll bring it in tomorrow but level of ps fluid looks ok....although a very slight leak might not be so noticeable.

I had a similar incident. If you have a chance to look under your car at the right axle shaft where it is supported in the center area. The grease from this seal leaked on the exhaust pipe which made it smoke. Greasy burning smell and there will be burned oil on the pipe. Look up and just behind where the oil drain plug is located. Its a small gradual leak. Mine leaked at 30,000 mi fixed under warranty.

Thanks Tman and Will. Just brought the car to Acura and Will you were right...it was the power steering hose leaking. It's all covered under warranty even though the car has 78,000 miles. So that worked out well. Thanks again.
