Shifting problem

This morning I started having problems switching out of park, or going from drive to reverse and then to park. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the brakes because if i pump the brakes a few times it lets unlocks and lets me switch gears. Has anyone had this problem? its an automatic 04.

i hope its not something big..

the shifter interlock is having intermittent issues

more then likely either a bad brake switch (on the brake pedal),

or the interlock solenoid on the shifter itself, which i think might be more of a possibility because you say you are having issues shifting into even reverse (i think... or is it when going to park from reverse), but either way it should not even need the interlock to work to shift into park, such as when the car is already off (shop environment), you normally can just slid the shifter straight into park without an hassle; SO my next thing would be is have you spilled something (sticky possibly) onto the center console especially around the shifter recently?

im only having problems when i have to push the brakes to shift gears, which is moving from park, or going from drive to park.

as said the interlock does not really need to work 100% going INTO park (it should just push the lock piece out of the way), but coming out it does, part of the reason why is ask if you might have spilled something recently, and the lock possibly sticking or something
