Searching/bouncing Idle?

Only happens when the car is started after sitting over night. basically the idle searches from 750rpms-1200rpms until the car is warmed up. at first i thought it was a cool little feature to warm up the engine faster, but realized how stupid that sounded.

so anyone else have this? i don't feel like dragging my ass to the dealer, sicne the most likey won't let the car sit there overnight.

yup, thats how it's supposed to do it

if this was an older honda i would replace the Idle Air Control Valve, but i'm pretty the TL doesn't have one

Is the check engine light on?
Autozone or similar will pull the codes for free.

any one else have any ideas?

after reading the service manuali'm thinking it's one of 5 parts that could be bad.
it could be the throttle body, ECU, APP sensor, Throttle Actuator control Module, and the Throttle Actuator control Module relay

when i first start mine up, it ranges from 750 to 1,200 - like yours, but no "bouncing." It starts @ high RPM and goes back down to 750 after a few mins. The other day it was about -2 and that happened.

yeah the bouncing would probably weird me out. I've only had my car serviced once here in the city, mostly b/c I dont trust mechanics in NY... (my best friend is a mechanic - but he's not Acura - bummer) I service it when I go back to FL, and occasionally I'll service it b4 the long drive there to make sure everything is everything. Hope your car comes through though.

i don't trust anyone either especially acura, but thats only because my father is a mecahnic. He even tried to talk to them, and they pretty much said fuck off. so i'll just have to sit around, and wait now

do you have the air or something else running? I noticed on my loaner Tl that when the heat was on, the idle would bounce slighly, from 800 to 1100.

what you are stating is normal, since thats when the AC compressor goes on and off. my issue is only at a cold start, then once the car warms up it's normal

Could have an upper or lower intake manifold gasket leaking and causing a vacuum leak untill it gets warm. I have never seen this on a Honda product but have seen this issue on Ford and mazda products.

Also does the Tl use a thermal idle control valve? I know in the past some Honda's used both an Idle air control valve and a thermal control valve.

according to the service manual the only sensor for idle speed is built into the throttle body

I'm guessing vacuum leak, too.
If you get the car back without it fixed, then try pinching the vacuum hoses shut one at a time with a pair of pliers.
Don't forget the brake vacuum booster line.

those were the first things that were tried since those are the obvious ones. So nope, it's not a vacuum leak

Might sound stupid, but do you think it could be a bid clip or pipe orsomething of the nature that is cauing the leak? I got this because those hoses might heat up a little and become tigher around the cilips. just my crazy, random

that would be possible if this happened after the car warmed up, but only does it on a cold start

just got off the phone with Acura as i was typing this out, seems as if one of the O2 sensors died, but wasn't causing a CEL

4 months ago i took the car in for service because of a CEL which was for the rear primary O2 sensor, but by the time i got to the dealer the CEL cleared, and they told me nothing was there. Guess they should have listened the first time i went there
