Question Rock stuck in my wheel area? Help me diagnose plz

First off, I had my front and rear rotors replaced within the last 15k miles and when I was at the dealer getting some service done a month ago they said everything looked great.

On to the issue.. I first noticed this sound as I was leaving work today. Before that, It never happened.

When I was driving I noticed there was this piercing/screeching sound coming from the front of my car. When I was stopped there was no sound. When I was braking, the sound stopped. When I started driving again I noticed it again and sometimes it got loud then softer and sometimes went away for a few seconds. I parked my car and popped my hood and my belts sounded fine so it had to be the wheels but then as I was driving to the gas station the sound stopped for like 10 min (at least I couldn't hear it).

On my way home from the gas station the sound started again and after opening and closing my windows I determined it was coming from the right front wheel.

I got home and jacked up the wheel and spinned it. It didn't spin smoothly with no sound, but sounded like some slight rubbing or something (didn't take the wheel off, was getting dark).

After I put the car back down I decided to go for a short drive and didn't hear anything again this time.

My buddy said it could very well be a rock or pebble that got stuck somewhere in the wheel area and is making the sound.

What do ya'll think?

next move would probably be to take the wheel off and check the clearance between the rotor and the dust shield on the knuckle.

It's normal for there to be an ever so slight drag on the front pads--enough to make a sound.

also check pad condition. Worn pads' indicators can make constant screeching noises even when not braking.

^ pads were replaced with rotors so they should be just fine.

I will take off the wheel tomorrow and see what I find. I still think it is a tiny rock.

does the sound vary with RPM or speed? that's a good way to tell if it's engine or brake/wheel related. chances of it being debris or a rock wedged in a rotating assembly like the wheel area is pretty slim. if it were a rock it would eventually get ground away and fall or get kicked out.

As long as it's not the low pad indicator rubbing, I'll guess squealing is coming from moving pad. When you stop, pressure is applied to the pads and no movement, but when riding with the lack of pressure on the pads(s) they will move back and forth ever so slightly and emit that metal to metal sound.

I would take it back to the dealer and tell them the issue since they said everything is ok

FWIW, that sound has disappeared and never come back since I made the original post.

I never took the wheel off to check anything. IF it comes back I definitely will though.
