Replacing front brake pads 2004 TL manual trans-need help
Trying to replace front brake pads on 2004 tl manual transmision. Removal of the brake clip does not seem obvious to me. One site (no pictures) http://www.ehow.com/how_6824528_chan...rake-pads.html
has you knocking pins out insteads of prying the clip loose.
When I have the caliper off and am trying to release the brake pad clip...looks like I would have to tear it up unless I do something like take the pins out.
Could anybody confirm or correct that? Want to make sure I am on the right track before knocking any pins out. Sorry if posting in wrong location. Already searched for a while on this site before posting this. thanks for any help

with the brembo calipers, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE CALIPER OFF.
on the side of the caliper, it will be an open face where you can see the pads.
there are two sliding pins.
knock them both out to get to the pads
Not ours but the same.

once the pins are out:

you can take the pads out

Your link looks right:
You don't need a 'special tool', unless you consider a long screw driver 'special'. Just use lever the screw-driver against the old pad to compress the pistons.

....
3 Use the 5/32-inch punch and hammer to knock the upper and lower brake pad pins out from the caliper from the inside of the caliper to the outside, and then remove the brake pad spring.
4 Remove the brake pads from the caliper window.

Thanks for both responses. Pretty sure they are not Brembo (black with "acura" lettering on the calipers).... The manual transmission 2004 tl has different front brake pads from the automatic (per advance auto data base).
I have a "C" clamp (once I get to that point) I was going to use for the piston compression but the long screwdriver is a good idea.
Thanks again

All the base model 5AT cars, 2004 - 2008, have a 'traditional' front brake set up.
Thanks for the information on the brembo brake situation with my 2004 acura tl manual trans. I will now plan to leave the calipers on and knock the pins out. I will look ...again...for the video on You tube. I found one but was not sure it applied to my 2004 TL. ...DUH on me...I just figured out your earlier post note with the brembo calipers, "

Thanks for everyones help.

I think the YouTube vid I was thinking of was a WRX or STi - same caliper, different car.
Just search "change brembo pads" or something like that.
Edit:
Here you go ....
I disagree with how he shows compressing the piston .... to easy to slip and cause damge. Do that with the pad in place and compress the piston using the pad to protect it. I also recommend greasing the metal-to-metal shims to minimize noise/squeaking. We don't have cotter pins to hold the caliper pin in place, so dont' worry about that; ours lock with a friction fitting on the end of the caliper pin .... you'll see it when your remove the pins.
