Question red positive battery terminal cover broke off

So the little red cover that goes over the positive battery terminal fell off...not surprising since the plastic is brittle and endured a lot of stress from being flipped open and closed over the years. From what I gather online, keeping this terminal covered is a safety issue and required by law.

Is there a generic cover that fits the 3G battery and cable perfectly? Would rather not shell out $40-50 to replace the entire cable (and another 1-2 hours replacing it), since the original still works fine.

You could just get one of these... I use something similar in my car... Very snug fit and it clamps down ever tighter. Comes w a cover... Plus u can add some big power wire to power an amp or something else

Just leave it. It's not needed.
Only safety issue would be if, while working on something, you would put wrench or screwdriver and short it out.
Otherwise it protects from nothing.

Just leave it alone. Not worth the trouble. It's fine. Some cars don't even have a cover.

Haven't had a cover on the battery on any of my cars. You'll be fine leaving it.

Thanks for all the suggestions and clarifications...one less thing to waste time/money on

Maybe just so it looks "complete", would it be dangerous to re-attach the cover to the battery cable with electrical tape?

It must be red automotive electrical tape, just red electrical tape won't hold well with temperature changes.

Might sell the car soon, so just want to increase chances of it passing quick visual inspections

I bought my TL used and I didn't even know they had them until now. Mine works fine without them so I don't really care about putting them on
