Recent timing belt service
Did a timing belt and spark plug service on my 07 tl about a month ago, went back because of a noise from the timing belt area. Acura says the new tensioner they had installed could possibly be failing, and also the pulley is bad which wasnt bad before, as well the water pump has a slight leak which It didn't have before either. The tensioner is under warranty but could that have caused the other components to go bad? I have always know to replace the waterpump with the timing belt, but Acura reccomend not to they said they nearly never go bad. Now I did the timing belt service and it went bad. The car has around 98000miles.

The consensus around here is to not only do the pump and tensioner, but also the front crank seal, cam seals, and possibly the oil pump seal every time you do the timing belt.
As for the tensioner causing the other issues, highly unlikely. |
I have a strong feeling that the old timing belt was quite loose, the new one was installed with the tensioner and caused way more pressure on the old pulleys and the water pump pulley now causing it to leak. Why does acura reccomend not doing the water pump, I wanted to do the water pump but they said it was unnecessary.

Sorry, no, belts don't come loose; even a little bit loose and the belt skips a few teeth and the valves and the pistons have an unhappy meeting. Like I wrote earlier, I there is no way the new belt caused the issues with your water pump.
As for what Acura recommends, that has nothing to do with what your dealership recommended you do, they are not Acura. |
Whoever did the job on your TL you can take it back to them. It very simple and BTW did they use OEM or OEM supplier for parts?

A acura dealership did the job and they used oem parts.

When I did my 105k service its TB/WP, tensioner, thermostats, pulley, cam seals, main seal and reseal the oil pump. |

My dealer would glad to take that shit back and fix it for N/C if they fack up, hell some time I fack up on ordering part and they still N/C for labor. |

Hands down across the board people have been recommending water pump changes with timing belt. It’s easy to get to the water pump with a timing belt service therefore you change it with timing belt service. Always. Standard practice. Sorry you are experiencing this difficulty now. |
Don't feel bad, but I did a timing belt with tensioner & bearing, water pump, idler, on our '04 at 101,000 miles and at 104,000 the new water pump started leaking, pulled apart and did everything again.
They should give you a break on labor as the tensioner should be covered under warranty. They need to take everything apart to replace the tensioner, so it would be just the labor to remove/install the water pump + antifreeze. |
