Easy way to get these screws off....
(found out after breaking two of them)
Get some thin rope or twine and wrap it under the head of the pastic screw and yank downward. It works great and doesn't make you search your whole tool chest for the right tool. =P

I just did mine a couple days ago and now I can listen the music much better without the vibration. TG! Briefly explanation of how I did it. Instead of using tools, I just stick my hand closer to the plastic screw and pull it down. Did this after I broke a small piece of plastic screw. I was using foam and stuffed them pretty good and the result is well worth it.

I just tried this fix by stuffing cloth in those vents. It helped a little but the rattle was still there. I pulled down the trunk lining further and noticed the emergency trunk release handle attached to the metal frame. I added felt pads and duct-taped the entire bracket and handle to the frame. This seemed to further reduce the noise. Much better now.

I have 05 TL that I've had this problem for about a year. The dealer wanted to charge me $110.00 for labor just to look at it because my warranty had expired! I just removed the cover with no problems and didn't break any clips. I wedged something between the vents which seemed to help but I still had an awful rattle/vibration. After investigating further and the real point of my post is...
My rattle was coming from the GPS antenna which sits next the subwoofer! The antenna can be easily accessed through a hole and when I would put my hand on the bottom of the antenna the rattle would stop. The only thing that I could think of doing was wedging a piece of cloth between the antenna and the frame. Everything sounds much better now!
So if after performing this fix you still have a rattle, check the GPS antenna.

FYI...just performed this fix on my 08. The rattle is actually coming from the rear vent vibrating against the metal deck underneath. Worked like a charm.
I actually used some strips of 1/2" closed-cell foam that I had lying around from a sound proofing project several cars ago and it worked quite well. There's really nothing too it, I used fingers and a screw driver to wedge it in there.
As for the plastic "screws", I simply pulled the lining down, and pushed down on it around each of the screws with my fingers (took significant force.) All popped out with no problem.

Great post, I am thinking about doing it myself over the weekend. I already got some insulation tape that I used on windows at home, so I might as well use it to fix the sub rattle

Thank you. This solved my problem... really easy to do! I now get no rattles at all... no matter how much I turn up the bass. I ended up stuffing pieces of an old wash cloth into each opening (Middle, left and right). Thanks again... this was really driving me crazy.

I took my car (07 TLS) to the dealer 2 times for this and they claim its normal despite my 05 TL never did it. They said 3G TL's are rattle boxes and there is nothing you can do. They also said b/c of the tighter suspension, I can hear it more. I said WTH does that have to do with it when I sit still in park and hear rattles when playing bass heavy music?
The dealer pisses me off sometimes and this car has way too many rattles for its $39k sticker price. Sometimes I wish I got the Hyundia Genesis instead.

With my two 12W6s I've found it works better to stuff a strip of cardboard between the glass and deck cover. They can be cut thin enough to where you don't see them. Worked better for me than stuffing things in the hole and you don't have to remove anything. It's a never ending battle with rattles. I don't listen to my music that loud very often but for those rare times I really crank it, I don't want rattles.
Now only if I can figure out the rattles at the A pillar and dash.

Kudos to the O.P. as well as to everyone else who contributed their ideas and suggestions. The divot tool and string ideas for pulling the plastic plugs were both **VERY** helpful hints.
Just pull straight down and they come right out w/no damage. You do have to PULL however. If you break them, you're doing it wrong.

I was able to shove some black egg crate foam between the window and the plastic. I used a long putty knife to completely push it down so that you cannot see it. I have no more rattles no matter what the volume is. I tried putting it in from the trunk and it was making the rear desk look like it had bumps under it. This was able to go all the way across the windows.

This thread was a lifesaver. I was about to pull the entire backseat out for the 5th time to try to eliminate the rattling. I had put down thin furniture cushion foam, dynamat, trimmed the speaker support rings, taken out some of the clips so that the cover could move independently apart from the deck so the vibration wouldn't transfer. I even covered the center seatbelt reel in dynamat*. The rattle persisted. I'm a little different because I did a 8" sub swap for the Pioneer TS-SW841D, so it there is ALOT more vibration. I was regretting the entire mod, but you OP, have saved me.
A dandelion weed puller works as well to get those pins out. Lord knows I've done it enough times.
*Side note: The retractor for the center seatbelt does have some moving parts (obviously) and I did find that the dynamat helped elimitate the vibration inside, Just make sure if you do a sub swap and you do wrap it in dynamat, don't remove the backing on the part that would touch the seatbelt. Luckily I thought of that first, because that would turn into a sticky, non-functioning mess!

Thanks for all the info guys - I actually used the advise and come to find out... its NOT the rear vents that are vibrating - its the seat belt mechanism that sits right next to the sub and supplies the seatbelt to the middle passenger...
I apply pressure to it and it and the rattling stops.
Any advise on how to tackle this?
I appreciate it

I just fixed my rear deck rattle. It wasn't what the OP found. The noise I was hear was from the plastic door that cover the metal hook for the car seat in the center. I had some Crystal Method playing and pushed up on everything in the truck and it didn't stop. I went inside and pressed on the speaker itself, still no fix. I then opened the plastic door and it stopped! I stuck some weatherstripping in there and closed the door, ALL FIXED.

I just did this on my TL a short while ago. I cut up a beat up towel I had lying around and stuffed it up there. No more rattle!! I am so pumped that I can turn the music up now and really enjoy it! I waited too long but it is fixed now. Great post OP even though it is old at this point!!

OP you are a god. This has bugged for a long time and I just never got around to fixing it. That was so easy. I feel like I'm hearing parts of the sound system I never had before since I never turned the bass up too loud. I got out of my car with heavy-bass music playing to see if I could hear any rattles in the trunk area. I was upset when I heard a rattle...that I then realized was coming from the garage door.
